Aggy aint Texas.
Agreed, but you're moving the goal posts. The State of Texas has been open to other sec schools for recruiting. That was already happening before aggy joined the conference, but once they joined the doors opened wide. Texas joining doesn't change that anymore, however being in the sec makes Texas more attractive to recruits that want to compete at the highest levels.

Maybe to a degree but it is also safe to say that some of the recent recruits may not look at Texas if we stayed in the Big 12-3 plus a bunch of second tier teams. I’ll take the trade of knowing that when we win, recruits will come to Texas in the SEC.
Agree with this. Manning, Baxter and other highly rated recruits would not have considered Texas if they were staying in the b12.

Thought Sark was what got Manning to commit. Some say Choise is what got Baxter to commit.

Then recruiting was never the problem at Texas Winning was.

If Texas had won conference more often and played for natty Big 12 wouldnot have mattered,

Not that it matters but Ohio St. (not in SEC) doesnot have trouble tecruiting whom ever they want. Win Win!

My memory may be faulty, but when Hogs left for SEC recruiting Texas fell off. And still has not got bact to level it was.

Most arkiefans I knowcare less about aggy but sure want to beat Texas, it makes thier season.

Everybody cares more about beating Texas than they care about beating the aggies. In part bc Texas actually has NC’s, not banners hung to celebrate their imaginary relevance.

Some of the best players want to play on the biggest stage, which is the SEC. I believe that put Texas at a recruiting disadvantage. With Texas and ou joining the SEC the SEC recruiting advantage will grow.

It's true that other SEC schools may be able to attract some top TX guys, but on the other hand we will be more attractive to out of state athletes. Time will tell, but I believe this will be a big net benefit.
If a kid visits campus, he cannot ignore what he's seen. What Texas can show a recruit beats most anything else out there, including the SEC (save maybe Bama).

If anything, I think this opens up a whole new world for recruits throughout the southeast who really had no exposure to Texas before this, like you said.

It wasn't Texas so much as it was the conference as a whole. Every away game Arkansas had was played inside Texas (plus cotton bowl some years). Including Houston and Dallas/FW. So their exposure was high in the biggest recruiting state in the nation. Leaving the conference was like leaving the state and stopped the exposure and killed their recruiting. Arkansas has never been a factor in the SEC, really.

Sure, they hate Texas. But if someone walked into your house, beat you on a last minute play and claimed a national championship in your house (ordained by a president, no less) – you would be pretty upset about it. lol

We will have way more games that attract national attention,  so I think it will help our recruiting from sea to shining sea, not just in the southeast.

I'll remind you we have already taken the nation's top QB right out of the heart of the SEC. We're also doing very well in Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. I'm sorry, I can't remember when we've done that before.

I think the point you're trying to deny is already factual before we even play our first SEC down.

Definitely not saying we won't recruit better in the southeast,  as you say we already are. My point is with more national exposure athletes from all over the country will be more open to coming to the University of Texas.

The fact that Texas (and ou, though who cares) is on the western fringe of the SEC can't hurt west coast recruiting. Also, being centrally located helps recruiting for the entire nation. While many players are willing to leave their home state, the closer they are to home, the better for many of their families.

Sark and staff are recruiting nation wide. They are expanding the brand and going where the players are. Mack was proud of saying he can recruit without leaving his office. It worked until it didn't.

I like Sark's approach. He recruits as much as position coaches, he is identifying the talent early and pushing for the players that are a fit on and off the field. Sometimes, they'll pass on a highly talented kid, but overall I think this will be successful in the long term.

Absolutely.  What you said!

I really like coach Sark and think that he is exactly what our program needed exactly when we needed it. This year will tell us if he can take it to the next level and win big with what he has assembled. From what I have seen, we can compete with anyone on strictly a talent level. I love this coaching staff and hope that all or at least the majority remain regardless. I am hoping for the best and am more excited about this season than I have been since 2005. Let’s kick ass and take names. Thanks

Sark has good reputation of developing.,Flood & Choice doing good, especially Choice. If we dont  win though recruiting will be harder and the top rated players out of state might be hesitate.

If you are over 85 some players will be asked to leave. My point is IMO team with alot of turn overs in personal will never win big.

A 3* player who has been in program 2-3 years will out preform a 5* freshman most of he time.

As for as the portal it has been a lot more misses than help Watts comes to mind.
Are you using Ryan Watts as an example of a miss in the portal?

Texas is in a great position to benefit from both recruiting the best from HS and benefiting from the portal.

We may see the bottom 10-15 guys in the program portal out each year, but that will be because blue chip recruits and transfer players are pushing them out. That is not a negative development overall, rather it is the way to best benefit from the current climate of NCAA football.

I do agree the portal hasn't been a huge payoff for Texas yet but I think this year has potential to really show how Texas can benefit from portal players supplementing the roster.

Watts is the only one who has paid dividens.. You might be right about leting players go but so for it has not paid off in wins.

Carter, Catlon, Holmes, Mitchell all might be good or might not be. Big win season and all is right again. Same season as usual and wolves will howl for new coach.

To e season needs three things to happen to be great.
