2020 Recruiting Board/Thread

i need some help remembering something.

On June 28 I was glancing at a Texas recruitment board and everyone was in full blown panic that our Horns were NOT going to have a good class.

Was that on this site or some other site with posters of lesser intelligence and belief?

So we’ve got 17 now, and there’s a good chance we’ll have Ty Jordan and Josh Eaton in the next week or so. That would put us at 19 commits in a class where 22 is probably the limit.

If my notes are correct, the staff is targeting White, Smith-Njigba, CTJ, Ransom, Rogers, and McClellan as flip candidates (with varying degrees of likeliness), and are in a good position for Hester, LVBS, and Collins. Seems like the staff is going to have to be very picky about this, especially since the “conventional wisdom” is to leave a couple spots open for guys who break out during their senior year like Ojomo, or “big fish” who unexpectedly want to get on board.
I believe there’ll be attrition and they can take 24ish

Could just be a rumor, but a poster in Surly is saying Herman is making a move on a 5* committed to aggy.
Straight savagery from Herman, what thread on surly did you see that in?

SHA, was QJ's commitment today your second Kate appearance or was that for another who has yet to go public?  Seems like Eaton and Jordan are just a matter of time.
Yes, that was the second one.

Eaton happens next Friday.

Has got to be Demond Demas.

We're done at safety as far as I know, so can't be Jaylon Jones. I like Jones best out of all of aggy commits.

We already have two QBs, so not Haynes King.

We were all in alignment with the Texas recruiting strategy.

There is very little, if anything, that you can take seriously from any poster on Surly. And saying "very little" is giving them much benefit of the doubt. The only thing you will read on Surly that is worth reading is when someone posts premium content from another site.

If you’re looking for logic and reason on a fan forum, you’re in for a long quest.

This is good, but let me add 3 more that I've seen on a regular basis lately.

1.  Don't care, got Jimbo.

2.  Trust in Jimbo.

3.  Aggy practices are hard and some recruits just aren't cut out for it and would rather go to Texas where things are easier.
Does that also apply when they knock off early due to poor attitude, yada, yada?

Saw on surly horns somebody said on IT that the staff did a bad job of recruiting Jaxon at first. He’s always liked UT and he went down to UT his sophomore year with a carrolton DB and the staff was showing more interest in the DB rather than Jaxon. The guy said he got a text from Jaxon’s dad that said they’re interested in listening to Texas’s pitch. He’s been building a relationship with Mehringer and so far it’s been going good

I know this isn't recruiting related but this is hilarious.  JW moment was awesome.

Okay, spoke to my friend this evening. Lots of good stuff.

– The recent run on commits is enabling the staff to circle back and revisit some other recruitments that most think/thought are lost. Namely White (LSU) and Jaxon (OSU) and another OSU commit named Ransom. All three are very much in play, despite the commitments. Staff is trying to get them in for visits. Ransom is a name I didn't expect to be on this list, but he is.

– Two things he's very excited about . . BOTH lines. The OL is working more like a machine, mistakes are greatly reduced from the past years and we're moving people. The DL is young, feisty, and big. Coburn is a monster. We have big guys on the ends who can fly for their size.

– Injuries are starting to worry staff. So far, damage is minimal but it could get worse. They will not change their practice intensity despite the injuries.

– Said Casey Thompson is quietly coming along. Said he's not ready now, but isn't so far off. Encouraged by the improvement, just since camp began.

– Junior Angilau is the talk of the OL. He outworks everybody and is sharp. Shows leadership.

– I asked about our defense. He agreed that he thinks we do have our fastest defense is some time. But also said we're more experienced than some would think. He said just because they haven't started much doesn't mean they haven't gained experience.

– Thinks we'll land another one this coming Friday. :)

Thats it for now.

High school countdown: Salpointe running back Bijan Robinson is the Star's

No. 1 football player of 2019

Salpointe running back Bijan Robinson, a future Texas Longhorn, has already rushed for 4,801 yards in his high school career, and has a goal of another 3,000 for his senior season.

The Star is counting down the top football players in Southern Arizona in the weeks leading up to the season.
Today: Salpointe Catholic senior Bijan Robinson, our No. 1-ranked player.
The rundown: Robinson is a 6-foot, 205-pound running back.

Who he is: When discussing Robinson’s legacy as a high school football player, the question that is often brought up is could the Salpointe Catholic star be arguably the greatest running back to ever play in Arizona?
“I’ve seen some great, great (running) backs in the state of Arizona, but no question Bijan deserves to be in that conversation,” Lancers coach Dennis Bene said. “We’ll see how he finishes off this season, but he is deserving to be in that conversation, he’s that special.”
The legend of one of the top players in Arizona history began in 2017, when Robinson — then a sophomore — scored a 60-yard touchdown in the second game of the season against Mountain View.
“We never looked back from that point on,” Bene said. “It was a great run and you knew right then and there, ‘Holy smokes, this kid is special.’”
Since then, Robinson has posted video-game numbers in nearly every game he’s played in while also going viral after he hurdled over a Tucson High defender and ran in for a touchdown. Over the last three years, Robinson has rushed for 4,801 yards and 72 touchdowns. One of his most notable performances from last season was his 247-yard and three-touchdown performance on four carries. If you’re doing the math, that’s 61.8 yards per rush. Against Mesa Dobson last season, Robinson rushed for 301 yards and four touchdowns — in one half.

Robinson verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns earlier this month. He’ll leave for the Lone Star State less than a year from now.
“It hasn’t settled in yet, but when it does, I hope I find wisdom to keep myself right,” he said. “I’ve been in Tucson my whole life and people think Tucson is a bad city or it’s not a fun city for young adults, but being in Tucson gave me so much of everything. I’m going to give this year all I got because this city and school has given me all it’s got.”

Robinson’s goals for this season: rush for 3,000 yards, score 40 touchdowns and win a state championship. Robinson only needs 900 yards to surpass former Canyon del Oro standout Ka’Deem Carey for career yards. If Robinson can reach his season goal, he’ll also pass Amphitheater legend Mario Bates who had 2,740 yards in 1990.
However, Robinson wants to be remembered for more than just his productivity between the lines.
“I want people to remember me as more than a football player,” he said. “Yes, I’ve done a lot of great things for football and football has been an outlet for my life, but I want people to remember me as a kid that has a big heart for everyone. Someone that can help you get through problems and just be a great person to you.”

Proof he’s good: Last year, Robinson was named the Class 4A Kino Region Offensive Player of the Year, but more importantly, he was the winner of the 2018 Ed Doherty Award, an accolade given to the top player in Arizona. Robinson has a chance to become the first player in Arizona state history to win back-to-back Ed Doherty Awards. Robinson is listed as a five-star recruit for the 2020 recruiting class and is ranked the second-best running back on 247sports.com, and the top running back on Rivals.com. Before committing to Texas, Robinson had offers from Ohio State, Alabama, USC, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Washington, UCLA, UA and ASU, among others.
He said it: “He’s as fine of a young man as I’ve ever coached, that’s the bottom line. He’s very humbled and grounded into his faith and a tremendous teammate. That’s one of his best qualities is he’s a wonderful teammate and he never makes it about himself. Although he has very high personal goals, he is all about the team. I think that’s what makes him so special and so fun to be around. He’s a fantastic kid and I’m really blessed to be able to work with him every day.” — Bene
