2019 Recruiting Board/Thread

Out of state recruiting high risk and high reward. It happens as signing day gets closer and the reality of moving away sets in... Long flight for parents from St Louis to Austin to watch games...
Why does it seem easier for Texas kids to go far away to school, but it's percieved as hard or next to impossible to recruit and keep out of state kids because they're "homesick"?

Because there are an assfull of transplants in Texas. The influx of people into this state over the last 10+ years has been crazy. JMO.

This. Think Okudah was one that was raised else where. Had no Texas roots if I’m not mistaken.

Blaming our recruiting woes on transplants does not tell the whole story. You can use that reason for the players who came to the state after Hurricane Katrina and went to Louisiana to play at LSU, but that does not explain a lot of the other people. Part of it is just the lack of success Texas has had on the football field. Many players want to play for the best, and bad Mack Brown and Charlie Strong did not produce great results. Other players in the state have been pragmatic about wanting a good education, which is why they chose schools like Stanford. I cannot blame them for that, though it is hard for me to understand how they could possibly have time to do anything lucrative like engineering, business, or computer science at a top school while being a full-time player.

tl;dr: Quality of football, quality of education, quality of coaching, and current state of the program factor in as much as whether someone was a recent transplant.

I'm still waiting for a kid from Texas who is committed to Alabama or Ohio State to decide it's too far for his parents to travel and flip to Texas.  Would be nice to be on the other end of these deals.

If Coker can play Guard I'd be OK with it.  Plenty of teams have 6'6 Guards.

Before anyone asks we are working on seeing if there is in fact another mystery visitor on campus. If we can disclose we will.

I'm definitely happy with Kennedy Lewis replacing Powell/Washington if that ends up being the case. I think he has a lot of upside.

On the RB front, I'm really hoping we can land Rhamondre Stevenson (if we don't land Sanders), but he looks like an OU lean to me.

Wednesday is going to be fun boys and girls. I like this early signing period. We can get 2/3’s of our team signed and then work on the rest

The Glass / Katy negativity is weak minded to me. The tape is the tape and the offers are the offers. He's tough, sneaky fast, good lateral movement and vision, with good balance. He's not Kyle Porter. They were smart to show him busting tackles up front on his tape and not a bunch of mile wide holes. Plus everyone bitches about competition and then they get someone with competition and say but his o-line is too good! If we miss on Sanders, he and Brown are super solid takes and we hope for Evans next year.

I think we need to bring in three running backs ... two high schoolers and a junior college or grad transfer. If Glass is our back up option and he is up for it, I’m cool with that. The Juco kid is very intriguing.
