One thing I have observed, following recruiting since the 80’s is that when Texas is rolling, it is hard for other programs in this region to compete on the recruiting trail. Coaches know this - so Texas receives a lion’s share of negative recruiting. I remember Van Malone saying “every coach wanted to talk about Texas, so I decided to go there,” or words to that effect.
My point is… Longhorn coaches have a lot of advantages that other coaches don’t have… however, negative publicity is one disadvantage they must overcome.
One thing said that is very true… Is that this article could be written about any football program in America. All you need to do this go and find a handful of non-starters… And you will get negative vibes about the head coach. But at Texas, it actually gets published and becomes something you must overcome.
If Herman isn’t up to this task, then he’s not the right man. I think he is.
