SignUp Now!http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2017/09/open-post-weekend-september-22nd-24th/– Anthony Cook: I spoke with a source regarding a commitment timeline for 2018 DB, Anthony Cook (Houston, TX).
Cook, who is down to Ohio State, Texas and LSU, was expected to commit in a little over a week (early October). However, I have been told that the date has been pushed back to October 3oth.
That change appears to be related to Cook’s interest in Texas. I was told that Cook is, “waiting to see how some more games play out”. It sounds like Cook wants to find out how Texas will perform against teams like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
By the time October 30th rolls around, Cook will have seen Texas take on Iowa State, Kansas State and again, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. That should give him a good idea of how Texas is progressing.
I don’t know exactly what Cook is looking for but one would imagine it’s less about the wins and more about seeing the same type of growth we’ve seen from the Texas team each week since the Maryland game. – (Super K)
– Max Wright: Last night Tom Herman flew his a helicopter into Houston to see visit some of the top recruits in the city. One of Herman’s stops was to see one of the top defensive linemen in the state and current TAMU commit, Max Wright. I spoke with a source about whether Max Wright was a real possibility for Texas and was told that there is a very good chance he will visit. While Wright has said publicly that his commitment to TAMU is more about TAMU than it is about the coaching staff, talk of a visit by someone who had been recruiting so vigorously for TAMU, makes it pretty obvious than he isn’t immune to the instability at TAMU.
This will be one to watch. Sources on the Texas side tell me that the staff really like Wright and would love to have him in this class. – (Super K)
– Coaches On The Road: The Texas staff will be back on the road tonight. Tom Herman will be at Houston Lamar tonight to see Anthony Cook, D’Shawn Jamsion, and Texas commit Al’Vonte Woodard. Another guy they’ll see if Conroe Oak Ridge DE Joseph Ossai and ’19 OT Tyler Johnson. – (Andrew)
– Maureese Wren: As Super K was the first to mention this week, Texas is evaluating Mesquite Horn (TX) ATH Maureese Wren. He decommitted from Arkansas this morning.
He is an interesting prospect, as he was committed to Arkansas as a WR, but Texas likes him at LB and will check him out live soon. I plan to speak with him soon… – (Andrew)
Sounds like the USC game helped with cook after all, as it should. Win some big games and he is ours. My take on it.
Maybe Brandon Hodges can transfer back to UT from PITT for his 10th year of eligibility as a grad transfer! The JUCO OT Traore has to be the most important recruit to get the rest of the way. We should also look for a grad transfer OT next year as well.

I took a quick look at his film the other day. Seems like a right tackle. He's got nice stats and unusual size, but he's raw.
SHA Purdue may get it done likeyou were thinkin
I have read it was the opposite knee.Ahhh, it just wasn't meant to be. Purdue had me thinking something unusual might happen. Oh well.
Daniel, that sucks about Max Wright. Is this the same knee as last time?
Not sure. Think it’s the other one.Ahhh, it just wasn't meant to be. Purdue had me thinking something unusual might happen. Oh well.

http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2017/09/open-post-monday-september-25th/– Anthony Cook: In this past weekend’s Open Post, Super K noted that Anthony Cook’s commitment date has been pushed back and is now set for October 30th. Right now, Ohio State is the only school in Cook’s top three that he’s officially visited.
That is going to change soon.
Cook is set to officially visit Texas this weekend. Yes I know that Texas plays on the road at Iowa State on Thursday, and the Texas staff has a plan for Cook’s visit as well.
The plan is for Cook to come into town on Friday as the team returns from Ames. With there being no game this weekend, Cook will be the staff’s number one priority in terms of making him feel at home in Austin. I wasn’t told if this was something that just kinda fell into place or if this was the plan from Cook or the staff. But I really like the idea of giving a guy like this and his family all the attention this weekend. It’s the reason former HC Charlie Strong liked for recruits to wait until after the season to officially visit Texas. Obviously coming off a win at Iowa State wouldn’t hurt either.
I was also told that his HS teammates in Texas WR commit Al’Vonte Woodard and CB D’Shawn Jamison could join him in town this weekend. But those visits would be unofficial visits, not official. Though I was told on Friday that probably wasn’t going to happen and it would likely be just Cook and his family.
Cook’s final official visit will be to LSU. I was told that visit will either happen on October 7th or October 14th. – (Andrew)
– Brian Williams: Yesterday, Bishop Dunne (TX) ’19 5-star S Brian Williams narrowed his list to 6.
Williams is the #1 recruit in the state of Texas, and is one of my favorite guys to watch. If you want to see his Sophomore highlights, here they are.
His recruitment will be an interesting one. A big thing that everyone can see is that Texas is the lone in-state school that made the cut, so he’s not afraid to leave home. Texas has made a big impression on him so far, as he visited in the off season and for the San Jose State game. Another school that has really caught his eye early on is Notre Dame. Williams and his family took their first visit to South Bend in June and were blown away.
Williams doesn’t talk very much to anyone, but I did speak to someone close to him last night. They said that Texas and Notre Dame are still the two out front in this one. But I was also told a school that the school nobody should count out right now is Stanford. Academics is a big thing for the Williams’ and they’d love to visit Stanford this fall.
Brian’s older brother, Rawleigh Williams, was a star RB at Arkansas before retiring this spring after sustaining a second neck injury. And while the family is very familiar and loves Arkansas, I was told they won’t likely be a major factor here.
I wasn’t told if Williams has a specific decision timetable in mind right now. Though the fact he’s trimmed his list to six before the end of his Junior season might mean something could happen sooner rather than later. – (Andrew)
– HS Football Standouts: Two Texas commits had huge performances on the field this weekend.
The first is RB commit Keaontay Ingram and the #1 4A school in TX in Carthage, who took on #2 Gilmer. Ingram finished with 292 total yards and 3 TD’s in a 48-28 win.
The next was S commit BJ Foster who plays everywhere on the field for Angleton. He finished with 266 total yards and 3 TD’s in less than 3 quarters in a big 63-7 win. It’s been really good to see Foster bounce back after tearing his ACL in 2016. – (Andrew)
– Anthony Cook: This past weekend I had a chance to get out the Delmar stadium and see the host of talent on hand. As K has mentioned, Anthony Cooks is nearing a decision date and is expected to announce in a little over a months time.
I spoke with Cook after the game and it was obvious right away that Texas’ performance against USC caught his attention, “That was a whole different team. That was a whole different team. I loved the defense. They were playing super aggressive. Kinda looking like one of those Alabama or LSU defenses. So, I loved that”.
Moving forward Cook said he’s looking to see, “if that was a fluke or is that really them. Next game I’m looking to see that same energy and that’s same aggressiveness.”
Cook said that the defensive performance was so impressive that it’s beginning to vault Texas ahead of both Ohio State and LSU, “Texas defense, based on the last game, is playing a whole let better than Ohio State’s defense and even LSU’s defense…just basing it on that last game. If Texas keeps doing stuff like that, it’s definitely raising them.”
I don’t want to get ahead of myself but Cook sounds like a guy who is looking for a reason to stay home. If Texas can continue to give it to him, I think the Lamar trio could all be taking their talents to Austin. – (Will Baizer)
