2016 Recruiting - Week #24-26

DJ better hope the train hasn't left the station by then.
That's a fair point, this is not supposed to be a big year for schollie numbers.

(now that I typed that, watch them sign 25)

Something from Horns Digest/Scout on Patrick Hudson

2016 4-star OL

http://www.scout.com/college/texas/story/1570317-patrick-hudson-intrigued-by-longhorns

Scout has Hudson ranked as the nation's No. 4 offensive tackle and as the No. 40 overall prospect in the 2016 class. Yet, somehow, he only has five offers listed on his profile.  Doesn’t seem accurate, right? That’s because it isn’t.  â€œI have a lot of offers,†Hudson said. “I just don’t like to tell people about it.†

* * * * *

“I have heard from the staff a lot. I have talked with Coach (Charlie) Strong, Coach (Vance) Bedford and Coach (Joe) Wickline,†he said about his communication with the Longhorns. “They have expressed how much they want me to go to Texas. It has been great.†

Hudson verbally committed to Baylor in the summer of 2014. Many assume he is solid in his pledge to the Bears. But that may not be entirely accurate at this point.  When asked if he is still committed to Baylor, or if he has opened things up, the talented big man said, “I’m just going with the flow. You know, whatever happens.†  Hudson did not go into all the schools that have peaked his interest, but he claims Texas is high on his list of contenders.   â€œThere are about 10 or so schools (in the mix),†Hudson said. “Texas is high on the list.†

The 4-star prospect plans to take an official visit to Austin sometime after his football season. He is also interested in visiting Alabama, but neither visit is set at this point.

At 6-5, 330-pounds, Hudson has great push and moves the line of scrimmage. What makes him truly special are his quick feet and ability to cover ground. Overall, he is the type of player the Longhorns offensive line has been lacking for many years.

With more than 20 offers extended to offensive linemen and tight ends in the 2016 class, it’s apparent Texas is searching for big, strong players up front who can dominate the line of scrimmage.   Sources have indicated Hudson is one of the top recruits the Texas coaching staff wants to sign in 2016. There is still a long road ahead in his recruitment, but it’s safe to say the Longhorns have a solid chance of making a run at the talented prospect.

You are misinterpreting copyright law.

OB has copyright in the recording of the interview and in whatever form they later transcribe it (in this case, a website).

However, they do not (and cannot) own the actual words out of Dobbins' mouth.

Further, what he said is a fact.  Facts are not subject to copyright.

To insure there would be no issue here, I took the time to edit the material, removing any OB work product, leaving only Dobbins' words.  I then took the additional step of deleting his redundant, superfluous words.
I appreciate the fact that you edited OB's story in your post, and agree with your interpretation of the law. But HornSports' policy (and the standard convention in the industry) is not to follow the legal system.

Essentially: OB got that interview, and they are charging people for the article and quotes. HornSports honors that business arrangement between OB and their readers by not reproducing their proprietary content (including quotes).

Believe it or not, OB, IT, HD, etc all patrol this board to check for unpaid reproduction of their material.

So, if a story breaks there on the food fight site, we can't talk about it here?

If that's the case, I think HS is accommodating way too much and that method ends up driving traffic elsewhere where it can be talked about. Sometimes those writers make themselves the news instead of just covering it (a golden rule no-no in journalism), it's happened many times with one particular writer employee of theirs.

That said, I just spent 3 mins there and couldn't find a thing worth sharing here.

Of course it can be discussed here. With the proliferation of Twitter users, most breaking news isn't even attributed to the correct person.

What we're talking about is copy/pasting premium content from another site. There's a huge gap between:

- XYZ is reporting ABC

and

- Copy/pasting XYZ's story on ABC

LOL Going with the flow is a good answer for I'm parking at Baylor until I can choose another school that's not in Waco.
