2016 Recruiting - Week #24-26

I was looking forward to Devonaire Clarington beasting on the field. He would of been a great addition.

How long has it been since we beasted at TE?

2007 Finley?

the potential of Blaine Irby in 2009?

2004-05 Thomas?

That is an extremely poor recruiting record between then and now.

When Watson has run good offenses in the past, they had a good TE.  So, it's a key position for him.

What are we looking at in 2015 with Swaim, Daniels, McFarland all gone?

De La Torre is only 6'1 and the H-back (I guess). But he is coached in same group as TEs now

So its sophomores Andrew Beck (not healthy for Spring Ball -- and not even a TE in early practices) and Blake Whiteley (who has decent size at least at 6-5, 248).

We do have a new position coach, so there's that.

But, honestly, without Devo, it looks like yet another year of zero to near-zero production out of this position.  We will most likely be putting another WR on the field instead.

Don't forget McNeal. Strong even mentioned him today in the presser as being utilized some at TE. He also said he's gonna keep growing and has amazing athleticism.

Fair point.

Watson reportedly grabbed Beck, who came in as a LB, and insisted he be allowed to train at TE.

Perhaps he will do the same with McNeal?

What they are going to do with him is one of the more intriguing questions for August Camp.

I'm so in love (football love) with McNeal. After 7 years in the NFL, followed by 3 in the corporate world, this intelligent, charismatic young man will be our new AD.

I recall his coach (was it the head coach?) predicted he would some day be better than Malik

This is the recruiting thread. Last year's thread turned into a catch-all and covered all kinds of topics that were being discussed on the board....which is why we closed it and started the new recruiting threads.

2015 signees are not recruits anymore. There is a long press conference thread, one about Merrick, and one about Cuney - please funnel your comments to those appropriate threads so the entire community benefits from the discussion (instead of this single thread).

Thanks!

OK, so Traylor has said McNeal was moved to his group and will now be working with the TEs.

So there you go

I have been thinking about that.  I agree John Burt's #1 jersey doesnt fit on the 2016 recruiting thread.

But, would you actually prefer a separate thread just to show Burt's tweet with a pic of his groovy jersey?  If I did that, it would fall to the bottom pretty quick.  But, on this thread, it will have maximum exposure.  And its pretty cool + there are his inspiring words to go with it -- IMO this should be seen.

Your main problem is that the other threads are pretty much dead.  As one example, I started a thread about Game #1/Notre Dame which is something one might think folks would want to discuss.  But I am basically talking to myself on it.  Then somehow someone else decides they need to start their own Notre Dame Game thread.  Makes no sense.

You do a ton for this board & post a lot, which adds to traffic. So, first, thank you.

To your point about "the other threads are pretty much dead"...if you post Burt's jersey tweet on the multi-page press conference thread where someone already mentioned Burt, it:

1. Is a good topic fit/match

2. Encourages more traffic/discussion in that thread

By using this thread as a repository for any/everything, it creates a self-fulfilling prophecy of other threads not being active. We will commit to doing a better job of merging duplicate topics, but it is better to have too many than too few.

Sounds like Rahssan Thornton is visiting tomorrow. It was posted on shaggy so not sure who the original source is.
