The aggroid delusion is strong in this one. ESS EEE CEE

Kai, coming out of High School, was just a very raw product. Potential galore but really needed to work on his mechanics. A lot of what he did was short passes and screens. However, he does seem like the prototypical quarterback for Gilbert's system. With some grooming, I could absolutely see him compete for the starting job this year. And a large part of me hopes that he wins it.
Not me...I'm rootin' on the Texas kid who won back to back state championships...but I will admit bias. My brother-in-law is on the Guyer coaching staff.  When it comes down to it tho, I'm sure what we all really want is for one of these kids to step up and right this ship

I don't care who starts at QB next year as long as he can execute Gilbert's new offense. I'd like to see us pound the rock, too, with our fine stable of RBs.  \m/

Agreed, let the best man win. Looking forward to the spring game so we can see these guys run Gilbert's offense.

I agree about the starter.  I trust that whoever wins the job is the most capable of leading the team.  However, even if he's 3rd string, I thought the 18-Wheeler package was a tough read for our opponents and I hope it stays in the playbook.

Did any of y'all see the B Jones tweet with all the aggie coaches? There is one guy behind Brandon not putting his thumb up. Just wondering who he is.

Rule No.1, never buy into anything a kid tweets this late in the process.  There are lots of thumbs in those pictures, equals Aggy lock to Aggy.

At the end of the day, I what the kid most capable of winning games under center. I would love to see Heard rebound and flash more of what he was showing in the beginning of last season. But yeah, a part of me does root for Kai a little bit. He took a risk coming to Texas, would like to see it pay off in some fashion. If Buechele passes him on the depth chart, he'll transfer.

Recruits beware: Jim Harbaugh's word means nothing at Michigan | Politi Bits

Oh sure, it was cute when Jim Harbaugh started sleeping over at recruits' houses, once you set aside the image of a grown man sliding into a sleeping bag on the floor of a teenager's bedroom.

Okay. Cute is definitely the wrong word.
It's time for Rutgers fans to open their checkbooks A $100 million campaign has been launched to bring Rutgers facilities up to Big Ten standards, but it won't work unless Rutgers boosters give like their Big Ten counterparts.

It's icky, but let's face it, most of the recruiting process in college football is. The hundreds of letters. The promises and — you know it's happening some places — the payouts. If the whole process doesn't make your skin crawl just a little bit, you're not paying attention. And, if that's the case, good for you.

But what Harbaugh is doing at Michigan now is more than just a little creepy. It's unconscionable. For the second time in a week, Harbaugh has told a player who had previous pledged a commitment that, well, thanks for that but we can do better with someone else.

Actually, that's not entirely accurate. According to Teddy Greenstein, the college writer for the Chicago Tribune, Harbaugh didn't even have the decency to tell Erik Swenson, an offensive lineman from Downers Grove, Ill., who had committed to Michigan two years ago, himself. He had his offensive line coach do it.

From Greenstein's column:
"A month ago, I had a great talk with coach Tim Drevno, and he said, 'Get ready to play for us,' " Swenson told the Tribune. "They called me last week saying I should reopen my recruitment and take other visits. My family and I were shaken by it."
When Swenson called Tuesday, he said Drevno told him there were "no spots left." Swenson said he asked to speak with Harbaugh but "he didn't want to talk to me."

Isn't that special?

It happened again when Rashad Weaver, a defensive end from Cooper City, Fla., said that Harbaugh told him that there would be a spot available for him on signing day on Feb. 3.

"So I was basically a plan B. And I know within myself that I am not a plan b player," Weaver wrote.

This is relevant now because Harbaugh has opened one Turnpike-sized pipeline from New Jersey to Ann Arbor, making him the biggest recruiting obstacle for Chris Ash and his new staff at Rutgers. Michael Dwumfour, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive tackle from DePaul Catholic, is just the latest New Jersey star to announce he was headed to the Big House.

All Big Ten coaches try to recruit this state, but few have done it better lately than Harbaugh. He has plenty to sell, starting with the tradition at Michigan and his own coaching acumen. No one is denying that Harbaugh is good at his job, which Rutgers witnessed first hand this fall.

Still: You hope the players who are making that pledge to Michigan now are doing so with their eyes wide open. If Harbaugh can't keep his word on the recruiting trail, can he be trusted to do so once players get on campus?

Harbaugh isn't breaking any rules here. The entire system is broken, since a commitment means little to many of the blue chip players, either, who regularly switch when a better offer comes their way.

But it's different for a teenager who is making an important life decision to change his mind than a head coach who is just trying to out-recruit Urban Meyer. His word should — emphasis on should — carry more meaning.

Yes, college football recruiting is an icky business. Some coaches just take that to another level.

I just wanted to thank everybody for the info.  I've been following this thread for a long time, but sadly I am not an insider with any new knowledge.  Really appreciate everything you guys do!

This was posted over at the Rivals site by HornosaurusRex. Found it helpful as a summary of what we're looking at according to Higs... I don't have inside info like the rest of the 'in the know' people here but I like the summarization of it in one place.

Higs:

Where Texas sits right now on January 27th

Andrew Fitzgerald

Others he did not mention

No in-home visits permitted on Sunday, but coaches can talk to recruits on campus

Texas targets that could possibly stop by campus for a visit this weekend

Higs feels strong about

Cuffee (scheduled to announce)

Humphrey (scheduled to announce)

McCulloch

Jones

Christmas-Gilles

Elliott (Elliott de-comitted from UM today, this is why he was listed here)

These players plus the 13 verbals Texas already has, gives Texas a class of 21 players (class score 248, good for 16th ranked class in 2015), with room for about six more.

Remaining targets for Texas minus the 13 verbals and the players Higs feels good about:

Fowler

D. Jackson

M. Jackson

Irvin Smith

Stephon Taylor

Southall

Porter

Hudson

Michael Williams

Higs said that there are other players that are Texas targets, but he did not list them.
