If he is gone after one season then he is a bad hire. Doesnt mean that he is a bad coach but last time i checked we shouldnt set the standard for coaches to make a pit stop here and leave after one season unless they are getting snagged away for a promotion.

Not necessarily.

We have a new OC with a new system called the GO™® for which Norvell's skills/experience may not be suited. It doesn't mean he's a bad coach, just that Gilbert may want to find someone who's a better fit.

Norvell was hired for a different spread-type offense. And that's the kindest thing I can say about what Watson unveiled.

He's gone after one season because he had the unfortunate luck of being hired into the Shawn Watson offense and then was tasked with Coordinating it when Watson took a dump Game 1.  It wasn't a bad hire - Norvell was a good coach in his one year despite the ridiculous position he was put in.

This is somewhat recruiting related but last nights game was further proof that recruiting matters. Bama has been top dog in recruiting for a while and Clemson has recently been doing much better. Strong is not going to win shit at Texas with a roster of 3 stars. Lets hope he finishes like he did last year. On a 2nd note after watching the game last night it is very clear we are not in the same league as those teams. Another words our coaching and talent level has a ways to go before we ever compete at that level.

5 stars matter - history and the stats prove it out.  After that its player evaluation and development.  12 of the 14  Strong players that have been drafted into the NFL the last two years were three stars (Bridgewater and Holliman were 4 stars).  You need 5 stars to win titles - but you also need to know how to evaluate and develop 3 stars.

Clemson and Texas recruiting ranks the last 4 years:

2012  Clemson 15th || Texas 2nd

2013  Clemson 15th || Texas 17th  (Texas took only 15 players this cycle)

2014  Clemson 17th || Texas 16th

2015  Clemson 8th   || Texas 10th

I could careless what Strong did at Lousiville at this point. Based on your data of developing all that NFL talent his teams should have been destroying those lesser talented teams. Hell they barely won most. All I know is if you are going to compete and win titles you better have a roster of mostly 4 & 5 star players the data is clear on that.

Right now I am just hoping we end up with a top 15 class.  Guess we will see.  If he doesnt win next year, then his time is up or rather should be.  I hope he does but my expectations are tempered.

I had the displeasure of rooting for Bama last night since my wife is an alum.  She always roots for Texas so it was appropriate.  The one exception was 2010 NC game of course.  Now we get to hear all off season how $EC is the best conference.  Oh well.  Happy wife happy life.

Clemson QB Watson & McCaffrey were both more deserving of the Heisman than Henry, IMO.

My sympathies DMAC, that couldn't have been fun.

Parting gift from Coach Wickline:

Klein Oak OL Ryan McCollum just sent me this text as a follow up to this morning's story.
"Part of the reason I'm not switching is because Coach Wickline lied to me about recruiting and A&M never lied to me about recruiting once. They watched me all year and offered me after my season. Also, when Coach Strong talked to me on the phone he had no clue what was going on with me and recruiting. He asked me what schools were looking at me when I was committing and was shocked when I told him I was committing."
In response to this part of an article on 247 I believe:

The biggest compliment recruits have been willing to give Joe Wickline in the wake of his departure from the program is that the maligned former assistant was a good coach who really knew how to teach offensive line play. But, as one recruit with a Texas offer told me, that's about where the compliments end. “He was a horrible recruiter,†the recruit said. “He was just a strange guy. I'm pretty sure I've talked to Coach Mattox more in the last week or so than I talked to Coach Wickline over the past year about recruiting.†Wickline's evaluations were good with Freshman All-America offensive tackle selection Connor Williams as a testament to his ability to identify talent. But outside of evaluations and teaching line play, Wickline was an odd fit at Texas. Klein Oak offensive lineman Ryan McCollum went on the record Monday with how he felt about Wickline as a recruiter. Even though Mattox has replaced Wickline, the former coach is the reason McCollum, a Texas A&M commit, isn't going to give the Longhorns a serious look.

CB's coming in for McCulloch. They are from Wiltfong and Warren two pretty big name guys in the recruiting world.
