I think Buechele plays before that. also the bigger question is who is coaching Texas in 19/20?
I do as well, mostly because I see Kai either transferring or moving to WR at some point. I'm thinking we have the right staff to get things turned around. So I'm hopeful that Strong is still in charge. But I'm not a fortune teller.

I assume all of the QB's will go through spring drills and they will come to some kind of understanding of who fits with Gilbert's system and who doesn't fit as well.  I think at that point we might see some movement where those who don't see a successful future at UT will consider transfer at the end of the spring semester.  That way they can begin summer and fall practice at a new school.

"I don't think Merrick or Kai play bc of victims of circumstances.....and they are looking at options bc Swoopes/Heard aren't the answer? I think everyone can see that. Strong and Sterlin watched Riley Ferguson film today. South Carolina is trying to get him to stay closer to home"
2016 will be 7th year we head into the season with no answer at QB. Strong better home he gets it solved because if he doesn't there won't be a 2017 for him.

I say it's Strong. He is everything we want in a coach, minus the Top 5 ranking, to date. However, though I never predict Texas to lose a game, only a fool shouts "Burn It Down!", then screams, "Fire the Coach" after losses during reconstruction, following roster depletion after the dismissal of numerous key contributors/law breakers.

All Strong has ever needed is time and the right offensive coordinator. I also believe an offensive coordinator needs to have the right offensive line coach to make the offense hum. We are on the right path now.

I may know nothing, but I also believe that Mike Perrin was absolutely the right choice as AD. He brings stability and commitment to the Department, as well as real love for UT. He understands the right way to do things and the importance of The Athletics Council.

Just my two cents. Please carry on.

Hook 'em!

Agreed.  Which is why I also don't think going after Riley Ferguson is any sort of indictment against Kai or Merrick.  Gilbert and Mattox I doubt have had much time to watch practice tape - let alone completely evaluate what Kai or Merrick did in their limited practice reps.  Everyone knows they need a QB who can step up and run the offense and quickly.  Might as well go get the best QB JUCO has to offer and add him into the mix.

Getting Ferguson shouldn't really effect Kai, or Merrick, or Beuchele.  He'll only have two years, and at most will only be here through Kai and Merrick's RS Sophomore season.

Everyone might feel Beuchele is the best fit for this offense - but nobody on this staff is going to stake their opportunity for continued employment at UT to a true freshman at QB.

Very interesting read over at Inside Texas. It is a free article today. I would suggest everyone go read it. The stuff on Perrin is very interesting and if true no way Strong makes it here.

I read that article and it pissed me off. He made some accusations that if true aren't good. I thought there was a hidden message that Perrin leaked the info about CS going to Miami. Did you interpret it that way or am I way off

Yeah I am not sure what to make of that article. Seems to be still pushing an agenda for sure.

Its definitely pushing an agenda - but I also think there is quite a bit of truth in there.  Its a shame that its about 10k words too long.  Someone needs to explain the term 'concise' to those guys.

Potential good news rumor on TE Irv Smith

Word is that his commitment to aggy maybe getting shaky

edit -- Mike Roach in another thread here thinks its gotten so bad over there that he's heard that players are telling recruits to look elsewhere.

Which is, of course, awful to hear.

Ian Boyd thinks one of our EEs will benefit from the new offense

He likes DeMarco Boyd in role of "fullback/h-back/pain maker/point-scorer"

Not bad for DeMarco if true -- from someone sort of without a position to a key cog

Regarding the Juco QB that we have talked to, are you really going to tell me that we're really interested in a QB that currently only has offers from Arkansas State and Memphis?

Nahlin says he likes our chances with DJax better than he did a week or two ago.

Also likes the way McCulloch is trending.  Calls him "probably his #3 defender in the state and a dream fit."  McCulloch is supposedly talking to Malik these days

Also think Texas is in position to make a late run at Deontay Anderson

Calls this class "high beta" overall

How many big time programs are pursuing JUCO QB's?  Probably not many.  Most big time programs haven't completely f##ked up the QB depth chart like Texas has the last 5 years.

*Out of high school Ferguson had offers from Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, LSU,  Michigan, etc... and ended up signing with Tenn.

More names for the 16th

from http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2015/12/open-post-tuesday-dec-15th-2/

Devwah Whaley and Davion Curtis: Both Central (TX) RB Devwah Whaley and Texas WR commit Davion Curtis planned to officially visit Texas last weekend. They had to reschedule due to testing. I was told they plan to officially visit Texas on January 16th. Which is shaping up to be an even bigger recruiting weekend than this past weekend was. Whaley says he is likely to make his final commitment on January 2nd at the Under Armour All-America game. If Whaley doesn’t make his commitment at the UA Game, I’d expect him to wait until near or on NSD. Texas still seems to be the clubhouse leader for Whaley, but don’t count out Arkansas. They have a lot less depth at RB going into 2016, unlike Texas. Also, Arkansas brought almost their entire staff, including HC Bret Bielema to Whaley’s house on Sunday night for an in-home visit. It seems like a two horse race for the talented RB
