2015 Recruiting Thread

Just listened to Higs radio interview. He talked about waiting for one big thing to happen for Texas like it was a good thing. Said it would catapult the class to Top 5. We sure he's talking about a bad thing?
He wrote his concern on HD.

"I do need to mention we could see a bolder dropped in the pond that could cause some not so nice ripples for Texas...lot of stuff going on..."

Shocker here - but the radio interview is contradictory to what he wrote - but that may just be because his writing is often confusing. He has talked in the past about a home-run coaching hire (not the OC hire) so I wonder if this is the boulder he's talking about.
He said he is sitting on a name right now as it pertains to our coaching staff that he's really excited about. But that until the details are worked out, he's not putting it out there. Said like Watson and Wick, we'll likely wait to fire a member of our stuff until we've hired this individual. Trying to think of who could be a huge get. Levine maybe? Move Traylor to AHC and RB Coach.

Lol @godz40acres I don't know how to quote tweets yet but I'll give you a fist bump back haha , Levine wouldn't be a bad hire but I just don't think he's the guy, otherwise he would've been hired last year instead of Traylor. What about Ron Duggans as WR coach? He's a CS guy because Strong hired him at Louisville as part of his first staff and he's a well known recruiter, Especially in South Florida

Higs also mentioned in his chat that he doesn't think Hurtt will be apart of the staff next year. Thats what i was assuming would be the thing that would catapult us into a top 5 recruiting class.

Honestly, unless Norvell chooses to leave, I don't see why you replace him. He's a great WR Coach and he's a solid recruiter.

Oh I agree but i was just saying if Norvell didn't want to take a demotion and remain on staff then I could see us going after Dugans, the only RB coach names I've heard mentioned are Houston Nutt and Traylor if we add Levine, I don't really know if either of those guys are sure fire home runs though

Highly doubt Traylor leaves, a lot of times these writers just say stuff to stir up dissension, I don't think there will be change on the defensive side of the ball because all of those coaches are really close with one another

Btw idk how you guys feel about Strong personally, but relative to the hand he was dealt, he hasn't done that bad of a job, The players play hard for the guy I just think that he needs more of his kind of guys, I think strong has made it clear at both Louisville and with his first class here at Texas that he can flat out develop talent, I think Texas is back real soon
DBOOK23, you and I will get along just fine my brother. Like you I am also getting into coaching and I also agree with you on how Strong will turn things around. Strong just needed the right OC, I hope Gilbert is the answer.

More from William Wilkerson

"Here it is: If I had to guess whether or not Traylor would be on this staff in 2016 I'd say he will be. However, I do know that he is a hot name right now and that other programs are interested. That's where my "concern" would come from. I think he'll be on the staff because I know he wants to succeed at UT. But he's got other options if Texas doesn't make him more a part of this offense."

As I'm sure most of you realize, the recruiting "dead period" began today and runs through Wednesday, Jan 13. "Once the dead period begins, face to face meetings are not allowed, even if the recruit is on campus. They are only permitted contact through letters or phone calls to the recruit or parent."

aggy coach DJ Slumlin was caught on video today buying burner phones for his staff at a mall in Houston. The $EC announced that it will investigate and impose penalties for dead period recruiting violations if he is found guilty.

After a thorough investigation, Slumlin and aggy have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the $EC.

To clarify - texts, DMs are allowed during Dead period. There will be plenty of communication between prospects and coaches.

It was mentioned last year that Levine wanted to take a year off. He was/is still being paid by UH, so he was in no hurry to take the first job that came along.

Traylor interviewing for Colorado Job this week
Ripple caused by Boulder?

What about the Missouri on Weds/Thurs rumor?

Wilkerson maintains Traylor wants to be at Texas.  But he conceded Traylor has become a "hot commodity."
