Very interesting update here

Chris DanielsRivals.com
Euless (Texas) Trinity Rivals250 defensive tackle and Oklahoma commitment Chris Daniels has had a busy Sunday.

First he returned home from his official visit to Texas, then he caught up with coaches from Ohio State, and then he hosted Texas A&M assistant coach Mark Hagen.

Texas jumped into the race for Daniels a day before his announcement to Oklahoma, and the visit allowed him to take a long look into the Longhorn program.

“I knew a little bit about Texas, but I never took a visit,†Daniels said. “When I took the visit first off all I liked the environment. Second, I liked the fact one of my teammates (Patrick Vahe) was there. Third of all I was talking to coach Strong and the staff and they said the team is 80-percent black athletes so if they’re 80-percent black athletes why not have 80-percent black coaches and things like that and he can actually relate to us. I thought it was pretty cool.â€

Another aspect of the Texas program also caught his attention.

“That coach says he could see me coming out there and getting a lot of PT as a freshman,†Daniels said. At first I was kind of nervous because what if I don’t do good. But they had three All-American freshmen come out of Texas, so I feel if they can do it I can do it too.â€

Texas A&M’s Sunday visit also made a strong impression.

“It was nice,†Daniels said. “He was kind of refreshing me. I don’t know if you knew this but they were my No. 1 at first. I was going to commit and all that kind of stuff. He was just telling me that I was their No. 1 and he was refreshing me on why they were my No. 1. It was giving me memories back and everything so that’s why I changed my visit from Ohio State to Texas A&M on the 29th.â€

They were a few reasons why Texas A&M stood out at one time.

“Because they were SEC. The SEC in my mind is the best conference,†Daniels said. “Also they’re in Texas. At one point I really, really wanted to stay in Texas, and not be too far away.â€

After the last few days, it is reasonable to ask just how strong Daniels’ commitment is. He characterizes it as a “strong,†commitment, and he there is a big reason why the Sooners currently remain at the top.

“To be honest, not only are they my day one, but even when stuff was getting hard and A&M kind of left they always stayed with me,†Daniels said. “They’re loyal.â€

Daniels plans to take his next official visit to Tennessee on January 22, and take his final official visit to Texas A&M on January 29.

Bob Stoops will make his in-home visit with the Daniels family on Monday, and Tennessee will make an in-home visit on Thursday. Charlie Strong will make an in-home visit next Monday and then Kevin Sumlin will visit that Wednesday.

Darius Anderson DT is most likely a backup option if they strike out on Taylor/Daniels/DCG.
DT Anderson would jump at a Texas offer

Our coaches have been staying in regular contact with him for awhile now

His only issue is size, especially height.  But he is a good player

The original plan all along

Hammy had to pull a hamstring typing that one out

More Hammer--

".... The word around A&M is there’s a lot of instability,†(Mark Jackson) said. “I just want to make sure there’s stability within the program.  You don’t want to be anywhere where you’re not sure if the coaching staff is going to even be there.  I really want to dig into everything, check out all the little details and see what I get.â€

Outsiders would claim that Charlie Strong’s back-to-back losing seasons at Texas would be far from proving things are stable on the 40-acres but Jackson explains the steps taken by the Longhorn brass over the weekend to clear up any uncertainty.  “Honestly they did a lot,†he said.  “They brought out the president of the University, as well as Red McCombs, to come and talk to me.  It was a brief conversation but it really showed their support for coach Charlie Strong.â€

Somebody needs to give hammy meds for the cramping hamstring on his hands

Holland claims he is connected with the Eboh clan.

And, despite the visit last weekend, he is still on the fence about where to go.

--------------

However, there are other rumors out there that he hung with McCaffery on the visit and will go Cardinal

Bless his heart

some more from Brainiacs --

Stephon Taylor – As we mentioned yesterday, Taylor saw everything he needed to see in terms of how he fits in the scheme. His parents were very pleased with the trip. “They were treated like kings and queens and couldn’t believe the love shown by coaches and Texas†a source said. We’ll see what happens but Texas is in a strong spot here. Felt they were leading before the trip…believe the lead is even bigger now.

LJHumphrey – .....Norvell apparently told Humphrey he would use him the way Oklahoma used Jermaine Gresham…inside and flexed out. I’m told Humphrey is sold and so is his mom..... Humphrey’s said that the Texas coaches don’t want to label him as just a wide receiver, but more of an athlete on the offense who can line up anywhere.... he announces on NBC5 on Jan 30

Tope Imade   Arlington Bowie (TX) Texas OL commit Tope Imade has been one of the biggest Longhorn recruiters since he committed to Texas back in May. Imade was the main recruit going after Jean Delance and led the charge for Texas’ newest commit, Zach Shackelford. Imade said he also did a little recruiting work on CB Eric Cuffee, S Brandon Jones, and TAMU DE commit Mark Jackson. Imade also made some mention of a few “silent commitsâ€. I know that will get everyone all riled up.

Brandon Jones and Deontay Anderson – The exact quote I received on Jones was, “Brandon Jones is soldâ€. I’m told it’s pretty much a done deal with Jones (though it isn’t over IMO till he announces it out loud). Apparently Jones and Anderson spent time with Dyland Haines and went over some defenses. Coaches told them that with guys like them (Jones and Anderson), “we can stay in our base defense and stop anyoneâ€.

Erick Fowler  .... before the visit, Erick wanted LSU and his mom wanted Texas. Erick grew up an LSU fan and was able to make two visits to LSU over the summer and really enjoyed himself and bonding with the players down in Baton Rouge. In terms of the best football fit for Erick, Texas obviously has a starter set at the Fox position in Naashon Hughes but the family feels comfortable with the scheme. What they’ll be keen on looking for this coming weekend when they sit down with the LSU staff is finding out how Erick fits into the LSU defensive scheme.

The Fowler’s did question the Texas coaching staff about when Fowler would get on the field given the fact that Hughes has a strong hold on the starting Fox spot and Roberson is waiting in the wings. But as I mentioned yesterday, “Apparently, Roberson told Erick that he will be switching to a true defensive end next year which obviously opens things up for Fowler.†Roberson was actually Erick’s host.

Another note of interest that was passed along to me was that coach Strong mentioned to some recruits that, “some people on the defense will be switching positions for next yearâ€

Here is the rest of their quote from Imade

"Imade absolutely loved his Texas visit, he said the best part of his visit was listening to Coach Strong speak saying, “He’s like a siren from Greek mythology. Everytime he speaks, you just want to hear more and more.†When I asked him to rate his visit from 1-10 he had to show his rap knowledge by quoting a J-Cole song saying, “On a scale from one to ten I’m a hundred grand†and added that his visit was out of this world. Imade says he loved hanging out with Coach Matt Mattox, “real cool, chill guy. A players coach and I respect himâ€. Imade said he loves his hometown in Arlington but can’t wait to get down to Austin to get to work."
