2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Lodge is an absolute stud and there is not a school in the nation that wouldn't take him.
Agree, he's the seventh rated WR by Rivals. Check out the fifth play, he blocked some poor guy into the ground.

He's also friends with Malik and Murray which will help make UT the cool school with other HS players. His video supports his being rated seventh.

It would be great to recruit a higher rated WR that Burt. I rather we not get involved with his parent's problems. I believe the kid should have the choice. Parents should advise and recommend, but the kid should have the choice.

We have better receivers than Burt already on campus.  He is a take, but he is not a need.

Higdon says not to expect any commits this coming weekend

At RB -- he thinks that, at the moment, we lead with all 3 (Warren, Brossette, Soso)

He doesnt think Brossette (and maybe Soso) will wait until NSD to announce (Brossette visits LSU on the 23rd, after us)

This could create an interesting situation with Warren since he plans to announce on NSD

No odds were given 8-)

I rated the three in the past and probably can't tell you the exact order, but here's how I see them now:

1. Soso – I believe he's got the most pure talent of the three. Plus, he's got nice speed and quick moves. There are things he possesses you can't coach, but with coaching those things can be brought out to their fullest. And when that happens, look out. Plus, can play a variety of positions with his athletic ability.

2. Warren – Immediate ability to play. Great size that's not common for us. So he would be a great change of pace from Catalon or Gray. It will hurt to hit him. The blood line is certainly on his side.

3. Brossette – Perhaps the most complete back of the three. Does all phases well, including blocking. Great hands, decent speed, average size. Lowest upside, but could contribute fairly quickly at Texas.

I would not be surprised to see Texas take 2 RBs before it's over. I don't know how they do it, but I think they could. And I do think at least 2 of the 3 could pick Texas.

I think Soso is Higdon's big mystery recruit. I've thought this for a few days now but this was posted over at Shaggy.

"A poster then followed up by asking "From the wording on [the quote above], it sounds like Soso is trying to get in this class and not the other way around?"

Higdon ignored the question for multiple pages and only addressed it when another poster pushed him to. His response was that he was done for the night followed by a wink emoji. He then went on to answer a couple more questions. Anyways, it sounds like he knows something to give him all of this recent confidence in Soso and we may be in the driver's seat."

Soso would fit the parameters.

1-He's the #27 overall player on 247's composite ranking. I think he certainly classifies as a "big time" player.

2-It would be a surprise IMO. I don't think Soso has visited, we don't have a single crystal ball in our favor on 247, and it seemed like he wasn't even interested in us at the beginning of the year.

Some people see a Percy_Harvin_type upside with Soso.

What do you guys who have seen him live think?

Please explain....Irvin decommitting?
One thing someone else wrote that made some sense when comparing the staff's patience with Burt vs. our apparent short leash for Irvin -- is that Burt was upfront and honest about everything going on with his situation while Irvin may have been more coy and not fully forthcoming with regard to his.  That was just speculation, but it rang the bell of truthiness.  Also, if you recall the 24 hour period before his announcement at the all star game (when he committed to us in front of his family and a national TV audience), he was supposedly not answering his phone (even from coaches).  He may be doing that again.  Not a good sign if true.

For his part, Burt supposedly phoned the staff the next morning after the de-commit with much regret.  Nonetheless, the ways things are stacking up, Burt may still be standing when this version of musical chairs stops.  Besides Lodge, I am still optimistic Strickland sets his visit and it is the same weekend as Wheeler.

Another thing about Irvin is the possibility that, if he does switch, it could ripple down to Davis who is still taking OVs.  Davis is a big corner who seems to fit what Strong wants, so he would be big loss.  And he looks to Irvin and wants to be on the same defense with him, as the string of tweets I showed a couple pages back shows.  OTOH, we have been working hard to bring in several other highly ranked CBs, most of whom fit that same mold.  And, from what I've read, we are in very good shape with Hill & Boyd.

The other Florida 5 guys aren't going to waiver.  We just have to get a couple of them into school and keep them pointed in the right direction.

But back to Irvin, the problem that would remain is that Irvin himself is not easily replaceable,  He fills the physical safety/nickel role (+ punt returner) while the other DB recruits coming in fill the man-coverage, boundary corner role.  So, Irvin would be tough loss IMO.  As we would be for him IMO, given our penchant for the 3-3-5 which he is perfect for.  Call it a loss for both sides.

The 2016 QB class is loaded. It will be interesting to see if the staff focuses their attention on 1-2 guys after kids show their stuff at Junior Days.

With the staff having a narrower pool of talent to choose from, I expect to see them move quickly. There are going to be some talented kids that end up spread across the state & country a la Chase Daniel, Darron Thomas, etc.

Do you agree with the idea that 2016 is the "Year of the Safety" for the state of Texas class?

Irvin would be a loss, but I'd rather have the tall, rangy, man coverage CBs like Davis.

I'd like to see us get one more tall WR, too. Burt, Lodge, or Strickland - all 3 look good to me. Pick one.

You gotta love Dev. He's all in. In fact, I really like Devo, Gilbert Johnson, Cherry, Vasser, and Charles O. Those guys are hungry and bleed burnt orange. Love to see that in players no matter where they decide to go. That's college football.

I don't know much about the kid. Here is his hudl..

I do kind of wonder why he hasn't garnered very much attention. Seems like he is pretty good at making plays happen. I'm not sure he'd be the best fit here, I think he still needs to polish up his throwing motion and release but he seems to have good instincts.

I looked at 247 for him and they have no rating for him, not even a pic

Sidenote of sorts -- last season we also had a handful of grade risks and got them all in

How does a guy like this fly under the radar of Big 12 teams?

Kid has obviously got something if Harbaugh is making the trip out to Gilmer for a visit!

Carter did not play for Gilmer last year. Played for another school not sure of name but something like Saledo. Therefore he is under most schools radar.Plus he is a lefty might go against him.

Some would say his numbers are a little deceiving. He doesn't throw down the field that much. Gilmers offense consist of a lot of quick screens. When you have Kris Boyd and Blake Lynch catching a four-yard pass it turns into a 80 yard touchdown.

He'll be able to play at the next level somewhere though.

In case some of y'all didn't know, he's KJ Kinnes half brother.
