I hear you, DMAC, and the rest of you who are pointing out our obvious flaws.

But you don't throw the captain overboard in the middle of the ocean when the ship is sinking unless you are sure you have a better plan. Fire Charlie? Fire his staff?

And who would you replace them with at this point?

How long would you give them?

Give me a good answer to those two questions and I might support you.

For now though, let's just hang in there and have (a lot of?) patience.

nvm, Im too pissed about the game.  I just need to relax and see how this plays out.  I was feeling so good about the Cal game and OSU game (except for the refs).  Tired of getting pumped up to be let down again.

Besides I was K Boyd fan and the whole sheep f##king ags incident really pisses me off.

Randolf, in the time that I have spent on this board, you have had some pretty strong opinions, and you have done a pretty good job of making your case.  Sometimes I have agreed with you - probably more often than not - but I gotta tell you, that in the case of this subject, you are not putting your best work out there. 

I have no intention of arguing this subject with anybody.  Everybody is too hot headed.  I cannot believe that some of the opinions put forth on this subject in the heat of people being pissed off ... well, I cannot believe that some of these opinions are being put forth by grown ups.  I am not going to waste any more effort on this while all posters are doing on this thread is venting their spleens.  I hope it makes everybody feel better, but it will not have any effect on how these issues play out.

We didnt have back to back losing seasons, losing seasons in three of six years and suffer 5+ TD blowouts in half our games during the mid 80s to late 90s. The Charlie Strong era is the worst two year span in over half a century.

We did however have back to back losing seasons and losing seasons in 3 of six years (all under the same coach) under McWilliams.  He got 6 years and his losing seasons were all self-inflicted from his own recruiting classes.

As for the BS about seniors checking out.  What's DMAC's point?  None of them were NFL prospects under Mack and maybe Duke is draftable at this point.  They got the country club treatment under Mack and we all know that only a few of them bought in last year (Diggs mainly).  

I'm not going to weep tears either way if Strong stays or is let go.  I think it ultimately hurts us more if we let a head coach go after 2 years especially after the shit-show Mack left behind in the QB and OL recruiting. However, Strong's D-Line recruiting was horrid last year (and miserable the year before with only limited time) and I worry that reinforcements there are not on the way.  The schedule didn't favor him much this year.  

Feel free to kneejerk some more RD.  I pity your life.

You tell Charlie to fire his staff. You bring Greg Robinson back as DC.

You go get one of TCU's OC guys, or hire Briles son to run your offense.

You let those guys hire the asst they feel they need to run their O And D.

If he refuses you fire him like they fired Rick Barnes when he refused to clean house.

You go get Morris, Clemson guy, or back up the truck and ask Briles what he wants and tell him he can't bring that DC he has at Baylor.

Hope Philadelphia wants rid of Chip this year.

How long ??? You tell them they have four years to fix it as long as they don't put an embarrassment on the field like Charlie is doing.

Pretty sure Robinson wants no part of this mess.

I stand corrected. Ijust checked and you are correct.

That doesn't change the fact this year's team is horrible at multiple levels. People want to blame it on talent and experience, but they fail to admit that Bedford and Strong allowed a 5'9" 165 lb freshman torch the defence because of a lousy defensive scheme. Special teams are largely a matter of coaching and UTs special teams are horriffic.

When you shit the bed, you can't be surprised when people say you stink. The coaching staff and the team both shit the bed this afternoon.

And don't pity my life. Pity my football team. My life is actually ok and pretty much going in the right direction. My football team is not so lucky.

I am really glad that our Athletics Council is involved in hiring and firing coaches.  It's a very important reason why we don't change coaches irrationally.  It's also one of the reasons that UT is one of the best jobs in the country:  we don't hire and fire based on a whim.

John Mackovic was very unpopular, very quickly, with almost everyone.  They gave him five years, and they waited for a 4-7 season to fire him.  Charlie fits, and he has done a great job, both in academics and behavior.  Smart administrators give a guy like that time.  They are not reactionary when the new coach is dealing with issues beyond his control, such as, the former coaches recruits.  He is plugging holes with talented freshmen as quickly as possible, which is what many of you said you wanted.

Now, deal with it.  I can.  Are you telling me you can't?

Speak up, now, if you can't.

You have a good handle on this, Java.  If the "Powers that Be" started trying to meddle with Coach Strong during or after only his second year, I would seriously question THEIR competency.

Back then we could afford to wait 3 or 4 years. The problem we have now is because of TCU, Baylor, and Aggy's success we can't afford to give Charlie more time with what he is putting on the field. His staff is the problem, and if he refuses to fire them, and hire quality OC and DC and assistants he has to go NOW ( end of season ).

If we were competing in a respectable manner, we could keep him and point to improvement with recruits.  What can Charlie possibly  tell a kid to get him to play for Texas now ?

With Florida looking better he won't even be able to recruit Florida.

Thank you.  I wanted to watch the second half, but it was time to leave.  I was very happy to leave, but hated to miss the rest of the game.  

Quite seriously, someone on the Athletics Council once explained the process to me.  The AC is quite a stabilizing influence.  Mike Perrin, as a former member, will honor that, I believe.  It's quite easy for a small group of influential people to put pressure on one person.  It's quite another to pressure a large group of people, who are influential and serve the university as volunteers.

Speaking of Manny, I see he has resurfaced at his old spot at Miss St. Robinson had loyalty to Brown and most likely came back due to him.
