Apparantly USC offered $7M

USC, Tech, and some others are not spending responsibly but I guess some players need that extra incentive to come play for you. We'll have a shot at the same player once Riley gets fired midway through the season.

The reckless spending is kinda screwing it up for everybody.

I was going to respond to the softball thread about the TT pitcher and NIL, but this is good as place as any. Regardless if TT wins or loses:
1) Everyone will point to the reason TT made it as far: their million dollar pitcher. One could say it puts a dark cloud or footnote on their season.
2) TT paying their pitcher a million dollars summarizes the dark side of NIL.

On the other side of the equation, who can blame her for accepting the 💰?

Exactly. There are far too few adults in the room here.

Don't blame for takin but it shows where priorities are. Looks like that be devisive to locker room.

I hope not, this is not the college fooball I love. I can accept NIL ,but millions for kids that are still in high school.🤯

NIL is already millions to certain high school kids, revenue sharing is more millions. Love it or hate it, it's the current reality of college football.

But is USC going to tell aggie to hold my beer and watch this. As they fired Riley giving him $85-90 million to go away.

It's definitely another dimension in the complex decision process that Sark needs to consider when making offers.

The type of players Sark is hoping to attract are top athletes, who will be able to keep working hard on and off the football field, and not get derailed by all of the money. Lots of great examples of this in the Texas locker room. If Sark doesn't think a top athlete fits this mold, he isn't going to offer.

Like it or hate it, it allows the athletes that are generating much of the value of college football to get paid based on their market value, and benefits schools like Texas that can afford to keep up with the arms race.

Weird take. Do you lose your shit over what Lawyers, Doctors, CPA, etc etc make? Odd times. People hate free market economy.
Bobby Burton made a good point. Is the added publicity and positive PR worth 1 million to Tech right now after making the CWS championship? Yes, probably so. The ROI is there for Canady.

There are some market anomalies that arise with NIL. Clearly, the rich donors are paying players way beyond what they can earn off their true NIL in order to get players on their teams. It has created an incredibly easy work around to pay players who will come play for your team.

On the other hand, your market value can also be defined by whatever someone is willing to pay and if you can get paid 7 million dollars for 3 years as the top TE in the country, perhaps that is your market value.

The NFL pay for a top TE is only limited due to the CBA in place between the NFL and the NFLPA.

So divisive that they won the Big 12 and are now in the Softball CWS championship?

In some cases, yes, I can see this being a locker room problem. I think Sark is working hard to avoid that at Texas but Canady at Tech has clearly not caused any issues.

I actually do lose my shit over what lawyers make. The pay causes very smart people who could have become engineers, scientists, or whatnot to be lawyers instead - to the detriment to society. I don’t blame them for choosing higher pay (you don’t need to be smart to figure that out), it’s just the way the system is set up now.

Why are folks angry at athletes getting paid when CEO and so many others make billions and millions. It's odd to me. I never see people losing their shit over what a lawyer makes, CPA etc etc.

How many years of school, internship, clerking, etc, before one gets to become a lawyer and earn the big bucks?

Right out of high school?

I'm not angry. But I don't have to be to see this is getting out of hand. 7 to 9 million for someone who hasn't played a down of football above a high school level? lol. Something SHOULD seem out of whack there.

This fella was supposed to visit UT this weekend. Seems unclear if that is still happening.

Add another visitor to the weekend list.
