*****GAME THREAD: #18 TEXAS LONGHORNS vs. #4 TCU HORNED FROGS*****

An important aspect of the game that many overlook is how critical it is for players to spend years in the same system to learn and develop. One of the defensive players recently shared that their play has improved because it has taken two years to learn the defense better. Same thing can be said for the offense. Read that Banks doesn't yet understand all their OL blocking schemes, but has been effective out of sheer brute force. If I recall, DKR said a team will lose at least one game for every freshman who is starting. He understood how important development time is.

Fortunately CDC understands that it takes years to develop a seasoned winning team and culture from the bottom up. Consistency of coaching and and scheme is critical to making that happen. I don't see any indication that Sark and his staff are not up to the task of providing that development and leadership. I know it's painful to watch sometimes, but give it a chance to work.
This is well stated. Other teams don’t matter when looking at immediate results. The Longhorn team Sark took over was  devoid of quality lineman, and had a bad culture. Herman left a mess, I am pleased with how we are building.

Just curious how different everyones take will be if we wind up 6-6 and lose to Kansas yet again.
Had the feeling that if we beat TCU we win out the rest. Now yes , 6-6 is very much in looming. Kansas owns the hammer on us and we play them at their place. It will likely be cold and windy. How many times will sark try to throw deep in that weather?

Bailor is just bailor. They've had our number for a while so a loss here would not be surprising.

Im betting that the teams psyche is shot now that they don't have anything to play for and a coach who can't coach a game and lost the season's 2 marquee games. At home no less

Tenn. did not lose players left when coach was fired. Their coach has been there much longer than Sark.?

TCU's coach only been there one year some how is 10- USC is floundering?

OU top two QBS went portal replace QB injured so maybe they have a valid excuse.

Bottom line is Sark and staff have done as well as expected by most

Still have two more chances for a better season

Question for board where was this defense all year. Except Bama?

Forgot it mostly Tom's fault rest on refs.

2 losses pissed away with terrible QB play and no substitution.
Giving up on this year in hopes of building for next?

Just because we lowered the bar going 5-7 last year doesn’t make 8 wins acceptable.
PK may be the next HC?

TCU is a talented, mature team with lots of Jrs and Srs.

USC is a poser. I watched them against Colorado. They aren't that good.

Our team is young.  If Sark craps the bed next year, and IF we don't lose everyone to the portal, the next coach will inherit a talented, mature team and people will claim we needed him all along.

When Texas plays and beats USC (again) I will agree with you.

TCU ia a talentied team better QB deeper WR corp (not my words) more srs. and jrs.. Better coached by one who been there one year?

who did you pick to win?

Sark is going to give coach speak. No coach is going to give some what they want to hear. I am far from done with this coaching staff, are there still coaching adjustments that I would like to see ? Sure. But sometimes talent and age help with those. What I see is a program being built from the offensive and defensive lines out. I see improvement in defense, and some struggles by a offense that is starting 2 true freshman offensive lineman, and has other liabilities on the line. As for about Colt, Vince and many others have struggled at times in their freshman and sophomore years. Point is instead of just being done with Sark as some have suggested let’s try for some continuity, with a coach who is trying to build depth and culture. Sometimes that doesn’t happen overnight. Imagine if Clemson walked away from Dabo in those tough early years, heck Texas fans wanted to walk away from Mack in his early years here. I want to see this develop before I make any judgements
Sark doesn't give coach speak as bad as others. He's certainly not a Parcells (giving coaching clinics during press conferences) but generally speaks directly to matters. Mack/Strong/Herman never even wanted to discuss what happened on the field for fear of not "keeping it in the locker room".

Yesterday was an execution problem, much of that caused by the TCU pass rush. The game started with a ball going through the hands of Worthy and bounce out of the hands of JT. Both passes were not on target but catchable. WR bubble screens that normally have yardage looked completely out of sync without being able to stick with blocking assignments. On defense we were doing the same thing to them.

Then when tcu knew the passing game was off, they brought the LBs up and built a wall that neither Bijan or Roschon could run past. Maybe had we run the ball more we could've broken one off as well. But until we could establish something in the passing game, running plays were going to be wasted plays. They tried Bijan on the wheel route and other ways to get him the ball, but nothing was working.

Ewers had 4 good games, and now 3 bad ones. LHN showed a graphic yesterday where his completion percentage dropped from 68% to 45% comparatively in those games.  Ironically Casey had a similar trajectory last year. His was due to injury in the ou game, and all the sudden he couldn't throw. Reportedly Ewers has an injury, but whatever the reason he can't hit a receiver right now. Sark is having a difficult time managing these games, and doesn't have a backup plan when things stop working.

Still, if we finish 8-4 it's the improvement most were asking for before the season started. 9-3 was a stretch goal, and 7-5 would be disappointing. No matter how good we've looked at times, or other teams that happened to hit the jackpot, that's still reasonable improvement for a second year.

Honest ? When did Ewers  have 4 good games?
