Common Man Prediction Thread – UT vs Cowboy aggy

HELLO, that's kinda what Sark does, except we have guys that can take a simple swing pass out of the backfield to the house on any given play, or any receiver that can take a simple slant all the way home, QE has exceptional feel for the touch pass, might throw it better than anyone in the country
True dat, but I agree with dillo. I hate to see the other team do it. Lol

I hate it when the opposition just dinks and dunks its way down the field against the Horns D.
We are #2 in the nation in preventing 1st downs on 1st or 2nd down.

We are pretty poorly ranked on 3rd down defense (88th with a conversion rate of 41%), not terrible on 4th down with a ranking of 69th (52% conversion rate). Add those up though and lots of teams are getting to 3rd down and still converting. 3rd and long was way too successful against Iowa State.

We want the dinks and dunks on 1st and 2nd down, we just have to get off the field on the money downs better.

Wind may be a major factor on Saturday, 20-30 MPH winds forecast during the day.

I think this will impact both passing games and the deep ball may go by the wayside completely.

If that is the case, I think it favors our style more. For starters, Quinn can put some zip on the ball if needed, and his short to intermediate stuff shouldn't be affected much. Plus, Sark can be very creative with the scheme using short/intermediate stuff in a lot of different ways, stretching the field horizontally if unable to do so vertically. We also have our O-line blocking much better in the run game and have Bijan/Roschon. OSU is not stout in run defense like they have been in the past.

For OSU, Spencer Sanders with a shoulder injury will struggle to throw through the wind and I can't imagine Gunnar Gundy will enjoy that much either. They don't have a dominant running threat like we do and our run defense is the strength of the unit.

I'll change my prediction UT 35, OSU 14 based on the weather.

Agree. Tech did that and beat us. Iowa State did that and should have beat us. The blue print seems to be made for teams paying attention.

On the positive side – when they do that they're not beating you deep. The longer a drive, the more chances for a fumble, INT or sack.

Non-score predictions:

Texas RBs total 250 yards, at least 150 on the ground.

Another 2 TOs for the Texas Defense. Between the wind, the shaky QB situation, and the DBs getting chewed out all week, I think we will see some better coverage and some INTs.

Jatavion, Whittington and Worthy all with 50 yards a piece and 2 TDs between them. I don't think the deep shots will be there with the wind. These 3 can do work in the short passing game and Sark will be looking to get them the ball in different ways. Outside of these 3, we don't have receiving threats other than the RBs.

You may be correct but I expect for there to be a Billingsley sighting this week. He could provide some big time mismatches in our favor. Also would not be surprised to see Hall get a couple of receptions. He has to be chomping at the bit to get some positive vibes. There is the potential for the passing game to have more variety personnel wise than we have seen so far this season.

Not certain of a score just yet. Hopefully Billingsley and Hall have bigger roles this week offensively.   Need to see the weather report om Saturday  1st. Just because someone claims winds doesn't make it correct. So, double checking with actual family up there 1st.

I forgot about Billingsley, thats a good point, he will be a weapon and another good one for short and intermediate stuff.

Hall has been a bit absent and today Sark mentioned trying to keep his redshirt "if we can preserve his redshirt, that would be in the best interest of him and the best interest of us". I am really not sure what to make of that other than it is unlikely he will be a big part of the offense this season.

Texas ranks 11th in Offensive Points per Drive at 3.38.
Okie St. ranks 67th in Defensive Points per Drive at 2.23.

Texas ranks 18th in Defensive Points per Drive at 1.61.
Okie St. ranks 29th in Offensive Points per Drive at 2.91.

Texas ranks 9th in Net Points per Drive at 1.77.
Okie St. ranks 33rd in Net Point per Drive at .68.

That's basically a 10-11 point difference in favor of Texas.

If you watch the OSU v. TCU game you can see that after the half sanders was using his entire body to throw the ball more than 15yards down field. He’s going to play, I’m sure after shooting his shoulder up to ease the pain. 25 mph winds, with gusts up to 30-35mph is only going to make it worse on him.

OSUs defense has been awful, with the only bright spot being the D-line. I don’t believe Texas has given up a sack in two games. If Texas can give ewers time, he will have a big game along with Bijan and JT Sanders.

Gundy comes in in the 4th and true to Texas’s past we make him look like a heisman trophy winner. It gets close but give me Texas…

34-24

As @MBHORNSFAN said on page 1, Spencer Sanders has not played well against any team with a pulse this year. In the 4 games against real teams, he has thrown 5 TD passes with 3 interceptions and his 2 highest passing efficiency ratings were 126.6 and 125.9 which would barely get him in the top 95 in that category. Counting the scrubs he has played against, he is still only 57th.

But there is an old saying, past results do not guarantee future performance.

That is all good, but wasn't Dekker's from ISU also not that great going into the Texas game.  Texas made him look like a seasoned vet and potential Heisman candidate.

You are absolutely correct about Dekkers. It defied all logical explanation known to man how good Texas made him look. He had a better QBR against Texas than he did against Southeast Missouri, for pete's sakes!

And that is why I said what I did in the last sentence of my post above.

"past results do not guarantee future performance"

You forgot the running part. And they've got Gunnar who was a slinger in HS.
