"Despite the Red Raiders being 5-3 this season, Hocutt said Saturday's loss to Kansas State, in which Tech blew a 14-point second-half lead, made it clear there was no point in waiting."

Anybody laughing?
No, just you. You're probably the only one who didn't notice Wells has been there more than two years.

The other laughing you hear is caused by the fact that you posted this thinking you were vindicated.

* Fired after 8 games midway through the season

* Fired after losing 1 game by 14 points. (Not 2 by more than that)

* Fired after a losing record 13-17 (It's been obvious for a while)

https://theathletic.com/2201022/2021/10/25/college-football-coaching-changes/

This is 2021. 6 coaches fired already. (record). There is a college football playoff. We watch replays streaming through the air, not VHS tape.

You don't have to play the hokey dokey anymore:

1 year for recruiting and mental excuses.

1 year for firing assistants.

1 year where the job is on the line.

Shit is changing. I hope I'm wrong, but if we lose these next 2....

Flay Him! ?

Shit is only changing in your swollen little head. In reality, nobody fires their head coach after six friggin games into their first season.

That is absolutely insane. But it does make for good comedy.

I'm fine with after the season. Let's see how this show goes. Lose 2 more and...
Sark doesn't lose his job after 1 season.  Got to give him at least 4 years to get his own guys.  The problem is that without winning he won't get his own guys...but we'll see.

Why are you determined that the football program be made a mockery? You don't fire a coach after 1 season. You don't fire him after six games.

This is what I mean. You've either lost your mind or you are aggy, or both.

Nobody gets that much rope anymore.

https://www.si.com/college/2021/10/27/college-football-midseason-coach-firings-search

Five FBS coaches have been canned before November, the same total in the last four years combined. It's a sign of a growing trend in the sport.

In fact, USC is the only school since 2011 to have made three coaching changes before November. The Trojans left Lane Kiffin on the tarmac in September 2013, fired Steve Sarkisian in October 2015 and eschewed Helton after Game 2 this year.

Uh, Helton had been HC for six years. Thats a bit more rope than he was talking about (4 years).

This is getting ridiculous.

From 2016. The info on how long each coach had the job his not coming up easily. The articles are interesting in the way they define the pressure to win as a business decision, and the trend is getting shorter.

This still doesn't take into account how long that particular coach had been employed at said university. I'd be willing to bet that most (90%) had been in their position for over a year.

Yep, I don't care to spend that much time on researching this. I agree. The landscape keeps changing though. The articles are good reading on the subject. The trend is - if an AD feels change is due, sooner is better than later.

DKR would have never made it at Texas under your impatient-riddled criteria. YOU would have fired him. He had four losses and a tie in his first year and lost the bowl game.

DKR took a team that was 1-9 0-6 in conferenceand did a heck of ajob winning. No transfers or help except previoue years freshmen.

Also ab assistant coach said our starting QB is thinking about leaving. What shall I tell him DKR Goodbye!

I don't think we can compare the late 60's, 70's to current day.  There's way too much money in this business called college football now.
