Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

OrangeBloods saying WR Jordan Whittington is questionable for the Baylor game due to a back injury he sustained against OU.

excellent post

One thing about Akers....He had an arrogance about him that would make tom Herman blush. He started throwing Texas HS coaches under the bus and refused requests for help with clinics and such. He pissed em off so bad that they quit letting his recruiters watch practices and started steering their kids to anywhere else. Fred poisoned the well. It was a damned shame.
Yes, that's exactly what I heard about Akers. It's too bad because then the program went through a decline with McWilliams and Mackovic.

The most arrogant UT coach was Mackovic.

I'm kind of bored today, so I decided to watch a little of the TCU and OU games.  Imo, there are 4 things the offense needs to do to be consistent and successful.

1. PLAY Jared Whiley A LOT more.  That dude is a player and his blocking is fairly decent. Play him

2. Bijan Robinson needs to touch the ball at least 15-20 times a game.  I don't care if he gets the handoff, flares out to the flat, or runs the wheel route.  He is so dynamic.  Time to take the shackles off of him.

3. They need to run more zone read with Sam keeping the ball more or run more QB power.  Bottom line, Sam needs to maximize what he is good at and that's using his legs more.

4. Lastly, If healthy, Whittington and Smith need to be on the field at the same time.  I don't care about XYZ WR spots.  Those 2 are the most dynamic WRs with the ball in space.  Nothing against Moore or Eagles, but they disappear too much.

To recap, a good mixture of Bijan and Sam running the ball, play more Whiley, and use Whittington and Smith at the same time A LOT (when healthy).
One of the AAS writers said to make Bijan the feature back .I have been hoping for more passes to him since I don't have any confidence Bijan or any of the other running backs are going to do anything behind this offensive line. Herman  said that none of the offensive lineman played well against OU and it showed when  our three running backs ran for 29 yards. I don't have any confidence in Herb Hand until I see it on the field. Same goes for the special teams..

It may be more effective to have Sam run more. However, he ran 23 times against OU while our three running backs ran 11 times. That just shows the weakness of our OL.

Has Prince Dorbah been playing? I don’t recall seeing him but I might have missed it

thanks

Back to our fundraising/donations talk recently, IT confirmed this morning that Del Conte's efforts in that area have hit a wall basically which says a lot about Herman's chances of survival.
