This is a tough one to call. We have no offense. They don't have much defense. We have defense and they have offense. So, we'll be entertained half the time, and bored the other half I suppose.
I pick this assuming our defense plays UP to the competition this week. We can't win this game unless they come with their A game. Kris Boyd needs to have a coming out party. Our whole secondary needs to play lights out.
West Virginia has THREE receivers who have more than 600 yards receiving. Of teams with 600 yard receivers in the NCAA, West Virginia has 20 percent of that total.
So IMO, this will win or lose based largely on our secondary's performance. There is hope, though. Will Grier leads the Big 12 in interceptions with 12. So he does try to force things and is often throwing under duress. If we can provide some pressure, we could see a pick 6 or at least an INT or two.
WVU has a run game but its one I think we can contain if we're our usual selves up front.
This will be the fourth elite QB we'll have faced this year. And of the four, this might be third in that list. Grier is having a heckuva year.
For Texas, the offense might be boosted by the return of Connor. However, its hard to just walk back in and be just as effective as you were when you left. Either way, his return will beat the hell outta what we've been seeing there. I hope he creates some higher expectations along the whole OL.
The weather is going to be a factor here. 80 percent chance of Thunderstorms. Could be multiple delays in this one. Wet weather does not bode well for a passing team. Passing is about all we've been able to do until now. This could be trouble for us.
Give me:
Texas 22
WVU 18
