Since you're the local expert on all things Baylor I have a couple of questions for you...
1. I've searched the web but can't find anything on Casey Horny personally condoning or justifying rape...could you provide a link?
2. Was he in on or have direct knowledge of the assaults and the cover-up or was he just going on what his boss told him? I'd really like to find out, since we all know that, typically, the people involved in any kind of cover-up like to share that information with everyone that they work because it's easier to keep a secret when a bunch of people are in on it than if you keep the info limited to just a few people.
3. Is it possible that he didn't know what was going on and was just defending his boss/friend who swore to him that he was innocent only to find out later that his boss/frien lied through his teeth about his involvement to anyone/everyone who would listen?
3a. I have friends and family who graduated from Baylor who did believe that Briles was being honest about his involvement up until they saw the evidence proving that he was a POS. Are they now rape apologists and/or enablers?
4. Do you honestly believe that Herman made the hire and that Perrin approved it without giving the big money alums a heads up or that Horny would be on staff if they had a problem with it? If you do, I've got a bridge to sell you...
5. Do you think that Herman logs in daily just to read your rants and mark your words? I'm going to go out on a limb with this one but I don't think he gives a $#!^...
6. Is this all that you think about? Seems like there's a new post/rant every time anyone on Briles staff farts without saying "excuse me"...
Knowing far more at the time than we do even now, Horny publicly supported Art Briles, but as an individual and as leader of the Baylor program. There is no way anyone with knowledge of the situation could condone Art Briles' actions or the type of program he ran. That Horny seemingly still supports Art Briles is his prerogative, but if that is the case, Casey Horny is one seriously f##ked up guy and he has a very twisted set of values. He has no business being allowed any association with any college sports program.
Feel free to believe that Horny spent nine years closely associated with the Baylor program and was utterly clueless to what all was going on around him, but if that is indeed the case, how does being utterly clueless qualify Horny to be a member of the staff, whose job is to watch films and observe what is going on?
As for the "big money alums" being ok with allowing a seriously misguided individual on the UT staff, it was the Baylor alums whose attitude was "we don't want to head about the values of the school, we were promised a national championship" attitude that allowed Briles to continue on the Baylor campus. Are you claiming the attitude that Baylor alums had is the same attitude the UT alums should have towed winning a national championship?
As for your Baylor alum friends, if the continue to hold Art Briles as being the true victims in what happened on the Baylor campus and not the women who were assaulted (as seemingly Casey Horny still does), then yes, they are rape apologists and I believe they, too, should be prohibited from employment in the UT athletics department.
And as far as Horny's supposedly being vetted, Perrin may have contacted Baylor, but Baylor was supposedly working off the Pepper Hamilton report and remember, that report was not intended to be an exhaustive investigation of who knew what. It was a "stress test" of the athletic department's activities and, once a threshold of impropriety was shown to have existed, the inquiry was considered sufficient for the school's purposes. We still don't know if Horny will be implicated in any wrongdoing.
The bottom line is that whatever this guy brings to the program, it doesn't offset the stench being brought into the program by his presence. He was only hired because Tom Herman put his personal interests, in helping his otherwise unemployable friend, ahead of the interests of the program and the university, which are to operate the program at a high level of integrity.
Sending a message to the players that Horny doesn't have to be accountable for his words or actions because he is buddies with the right guy (Tom Herman) is the wrong message. It either indicates to the players they also don't have to be accountable for their words or actions, or that Tom Herman is a hypocrite when he holds some people accountable, just not his buddy. Allowing Casey Horny to remain on the UT staff without ever having to apologize for his comments or repudiate his public admiration of Art Briles is an even worse message.
If Horny truly does admire the man who we all know perpetuated a culture of rape and violence against women, he needs serious help. He doesn't need to be spreading his "values" to members of the UT football program.
I sickens me that UT alumni would rather look the other way at the fact a scumbag like Casey Horny is on the UT staff, and allow Tom Herman to give Casey Horny shelter from accountability, simply because it may keep the head coach happy and help the football team win an extra game or two. The stench of the Baylor scandal is already permeating the UT program more than it ever should have been allowed to.
