If true.......If the administration loses Herman because of not letting Herman bring Applewhite, then this administration will have lost all intentions of having a winning football program. PC and BS. Any head coach that gets hired anywhere should be able to pick his own staff...........just saying. 

You left out the little matter of Major being involved with a student. I don't blame them from a legal standpoint. I'm not a lawyer, but I would think it's not wise for the University to hire him back.

If Herman doesn't understand then he can go live in Louisiana and we can hire our next coach from Navy or SMU.

I did read that UH was telling recruits that Applewhite would take over when Herman left. So we will see.

If you're UH, why not? Who else are you going to get? Major has worked under Mack, Saban, and Herman. Proven himself to be a good coordinator/recruiter and would keep some continuity within the program.

Yes.... does make it more understandable. 

The broader point still has merit.  I think there are too many cooks in the kitchen at times for UT.  We seem to fail to hire competent people and then let them do THEIR jobs.  Let the AD direct athletics... let the football coach run the football program (which includes hiring coaches he wants). 

Look at our last coaching hire situation for football.... didn't we hire some sort of agency to help with the search?  And, we had Red McCombs out there thinking he had permission from someone to go and talk with the modern day Howard Cosell about coaching at Texas.... it gets a bit embarrassing, doesn't it? 

Too many cooks spoils the broth.... or something like that.

Sure, because she'll have more power than Fertitta and their BMDs.

But, maybe UH will prefer to avoid the negative PR. Applewhite is a solid back-up plan.

But, IMO at least, not in the same category with Briles

I think all this is funny.  One of the biggest responsibilites a head coach has is to hire a competent coaching staff to build a program around.  Not one person is against hiring Tom Herman to be the next head coach at UT, but he currently has (3) former UT assistants on his staff, Major Applewhite, Oscar Giles and Darrell Wyatt, whom we deemed as needing to go for various reasons.  Can't wait to see how this all turns out.
