Do You Really Think Charlie's Job Is In Jeopardy?

Not asking whether or not you THINK it should or shouldn't be in jeopardy.

But do you really think the powers that be are as all up in arms as everyone on the various Texas boards/sites?

I'm not convinced that they are no matter how much I read that the so-called insiders are saying that the BMD's are on the verge of making a decision to fire Charlie. With some even saying it's done deal.

And I just don't think that the powers that be will pull the plug on Charlie as long as he gets to a winning record of 7-5 and as long as we are at least somewhat competitive in any losses.

The only thing that could change that is if we go totally in the tank which I don't think happens.

What do you think?

What more do you need to see to determine whether Charlie Strong is an elite coach? If you have any doubts, just wait until Bob Stoops dismantles Texas this weekend.

Charlie is a good person, but he is playing checkers and the game is chess.

I believe he is in trouble, but not necessarily because we are 2-2. I think the true concern is that he had 2 weeks to fix the issues from the Cal game, and it was the same old story against Okie Lite. Additionally, he ended up taking play calling duties after the Okie Lite game. Everyone and their dog called for him to take over play calling duties after the Cal game. It feels like he wasted a game, out of loyalty, to give Vance another chance.

I talked with a guy whose source is a BMD. He said today that in their minds, Charlie is as good as fired. Texas won't do it during the season.

I asked about waiting while LSU is there and able to talk with Herman now. He didn't say much about that, citing some ncaa rules about shopping other coaching staffs. Herman won't do a thing until the season is over anyway.

He mentioned Chris Peterson to me. Said thats likely option B.

That is all.

If we don't land Herman what are your thoughts about Peterson?

There were too many missed tackles and blown assignments on defense and special teams were

horrible (3 blocked PATs in particular).  These are all things symptomatic of terrible coaching. It starts

at the top with the 5 million/year HC so HELL YES his job better be in jeopardy. All my life I've been

really excited about the Texas/OU game. Just excited at another opportunity to beat the Sooners

and send them back across the Red River to wallow in the misery of losing to Texas. There is no

excitement for me this year...it's a guaranteed ass whipping coming. Texas always has to play

tough on defense to beat OU...ALWAYS. And there is no "tough on defense" in the Texas Longhorns

this season...it just isn't there. For that reason alone the HC's job should be in jeopardy.

Ok, so everone wants Herman. I get it, I get it, so do I, but I started thinking what makes Herman different than Charlie? Is he really a can't miss hire?

A highly successful coordinator that won a title under Urban Meyer, took over a non P5 program and started beating everyone while having lesser talent on his first stint as a HC. Now he's ready to take over a blueblood program? Who does that sound like? Just sayin.... Can't afford to get the next hire wrong.

Personally, I've always been a Petersen fan. When his name came up during the last coaching search, I was all for hiring him. From what I've seen, he's a solid offensive mind, and his teams always appear to be well coached. He also has those big wins in the Fiesta Bowls, and his teams always performed well against P5 competition. Now that he's had a couple of seasons at UW, it looks like that program is ready to challenge for the Pac-12 title. I watched Friday night's game against Stanford. That was an utter beat down.

Going back to the previous coaching search, I think I recall his son having some specific health needs, which affects where he would coach.

What was the most damning stat we've seen thus far - other than CFS 13-16 record? UT has only come from behind at halftime once during his tenure? CFS has proven to be an ineffectual strategist, game manager, and motivator.

Nice guy, good recruiter, but in over his head at Texas. Is what it is, unfortunately

There ain't no such thing as a "can't miss hire", but Herman's credentials are as good as anybody's.

Assuming, of course, that Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh ain't comin'   ;)

Ill bet money that we fire him during the season.

It wont be looked down on by coaches. Its apparent to everyone that the guy in charge now isnt doing a good job with a stocked cupboard.

It would be disrespectful for Urban to take over for Charlie

I agree with this post. Unless a miracle happens he is good as gone. The anger is real

Peterson has a child that requires some special hospital for him ( I can't remember what it is ) but Seattle supposedly has a top notch place for what his kid needs. May be hard to get him.

I have said all along that Charlie would be back with a six and six record. However a couple of our posters here have convinced me otherwise. I hope they are right. And the two I am talking about rarely agree on Anything. ðŸ˜
