Has the change in practice style (run a ton of plays quickly and dont stop for corrextions) hurt the defense? How much time on the field is spent walking through how each coverage should respond to air raid route combinations? I'm wondering if our guys need more physical practice to back up the film study.
Everyone seems on the same page in regards to how much this change in offense would help the defense. In terms of working through coverages, I'm not sure. I do know that the defense spends a ton of time in the film room, but I tend to agree that they need some more physical practices, especially up front.

When will we see a different defensive alignment. This bend dont break mentality with our secondary isnt working... as a matter of fact its f'n broken.

Do you see bedford surviving this season?
I think there is a lot riding on Bedford's status in this next game. I don't think you will see a different alignment, but the team did not run as much 3-4 as they usually do. I think that will change. You have to get the young guys on the field.

What scheme do you feel is the best fit for Texas on defense (3-4, 4-3, etc.)?
I agree with Mike on this. A 3-4 with a FOX end fits the talent on this team really well. Being able to move Malik to the likes of a FOX/edge rusher is the ultimate goal. He is not a natural MLB and does not get off of blocks well. He will make his living getting to the quarterback.

What are the chances we see more simplified defensive schemes? For example, when Greg Robinson took over in 2013, the schemes were simplified and the defense performed far better following the Manny _iaz dumpster fire against BYU. Due to the youth of this year's defense, and considering the young players vying for playing time, maybe simpler schemes could yield positive results.
Could definitely see it simplified, specifically in the secondary. Texas has been running a ton of zone coverages, which is making them confused. Would like to see more man to man and press coverages to throw receivers off of their routes. That seems to be the best way to defend against the spread. Texas has the talent at CB to pull this off. Texas also needs to run more 3-4 with the FOX imo.

I haven't checked the numbers, how many of the sacks are off a safety blitz?  I know little machete has 2.

Not sure on that one. I know of at least 2. Texas leads the Big 12 in sacks with 11, which is good enough for 10th in the country.

I want to see more of Elliot at DE with Nelson and Poona in the game.  They may benefit even more so from running a 4-2-5.

Well speaking of young guys, whom do you feel for certain will see the field in Stillwater?

Shane is ok, the word is a cracked rib

we are still waiting for word on the other two
I need to ask how is he OK with a cracked rib? I had a couple of broken ribs when I was much younger and I remember how difficult it was to breathe and move in certain ways.  I don't think there was chance I could have thrown a football.  Could someone with some medical experience respond?

thanks

Malcolm Roach, Breckyn Hager, DeShon Elliot, Brandon Jones (reportedly as a starter), Duvernay, Kyle Porter. Lots of young guys in the arsenal that will be unleashed.

Have we heard anything on how the coach evaluation has gone?  Also any hints as to how much involvement CS has now with the def beyond the in meetings monitoring which is sounded like before?

There were some rumors that BJM would get a shot at DC, but it appears that Bedford is retaining the play calling duties for now. I think you will see Strong making personnel decision specifically, and will take over if needed. I think it is pretty clear that Bedford does not take suggestions kindly from others.

Bedford needs to realize it's not a suggestion when it comes from your boss.
Yes, but it's partially on Charlie as well. Make it known you are the boss. Tell Bedford, "You are going to do X, Y, and Z and I do not care what you think about it." Charlie will learn the easy way or the hard way that you cannot have friends on your team. When you are the boss, you must get the job done.
