Big 12 Expansion Project

I think Cincinnati and Memphis would be the best two options in my opinion

I am anti-Memphis (too much shenaniganz)

Would vote Cinci and UConn

This way we take a bite of Ohio and NY TV markets

Alternate -- Central Florida

A few years back, I think there was a tiny window when the Big12 had a shot at FSU and UNC but that window shut pretty quick (and of course DeLoss was too busy picking his nose at the time)

14 teams - those 2^ + C.Florida + BYU

16 teams - UH gets one of those spots (+ maybe Boise or Louisville)

But the real question is whether Texas (and ou I guess) even want to the Big 12 to survive.  This perpetual nose-picking about the Big 12 helps no one and needs to end - one way or the other.  We should either cut ties now (I pretty much hate the Big12) or go all in with the 16 team league that most of the TV people say is coming anyway.  Beat everyone else to it to avoid being left with only scraps.

Or, just go say 'screw it' and all-in for Alabama and LSU.

There will be some late games, sure, but Arizona,Arizona State, Utah and Colorado are only one hour back unlike the others.

Late games do suck

I used not to give two farts about the AL West but now I hate it

At least most of these would be Sat Nights

As always, @TheNumberMonkey is all over Big 12 expansion possibilities. Says it's not a matter of if, but when. Now, the challenge is agreeing on who to invite.

I can live with Memphis and Cincinnati IF  their corporate leaders (FedEx, AutoZone, P&G, etc.) pony up major sponsorship dollars. But, Arkansas and Kentucky are much more exciting to think about.

I have no interest in becoming the new conference USA. Those teams have a hard time getting 15 k to show at their games. What a shit show the Big 12 is. Disband not expand per an OB poster. I like the this.

If the BIG 12 expanded who would be realistic options?

I'm not to excited about adding anyone outside of a Power 5 Conference.

I would be ok with BYU and pulling someone from the ACC (But I doubt that happens).

I don't see UT or its "Texas Block" voting to expand with MEM or CIN unless their sponsors back up the Brinks trucks with buku dinero. We need an 8 vote super majority to approve expansion and I don't think any G5 programs will garner that kind of support. OU will just have to get over it because the GOR locks them into the Big12 thru 2025.

If the league implodes after that, so be it. UT will be a major player regardless.

I wouldn't mind to disband it. But unlike a lot of you. I would love for Texas and ou to both go to the sec.

Athletically, that'd be the most palatable option given the choices. I just don't think UT's administration wants to be associated with those rednecks. Maybe that changes by 2025.

*sigh* I just don't know if I can get excited about any G5 additions. CIN and MEM aren't bad programs, but they don't excite me. This blogger seems to think that FOX is willing to pay the Big12 to add these two. IDK...

Cincinnati and Memphis to the Big 12 Makes Sense

VERY unscientific poll question for those who would contribute:

Who are the opponent(s) that you would like to see the Longhorns play every year?

 Oklahoma,Tech and I guess Baylor....eh.. screw baylor..Oklahoma State instead.

I would like Texas to play A&M and Arkansas again every year if that were possible.

They'll never leave the "vaunted" SEC, unfortunately.  Would have loved to have Arkansas in the conference all those years instead of Baylor.

Wouldn't it help Arkansas recruit better players if they were playing UT,Tech,Baylor and TCU every year ?

I have seen it said that the analysis that was done claims that expansion would be far more beneficial to raising revenues than a CCG.

Maybe Texas should allow expansion with one condition: Let us out of the GOR and you guys can do anything you want.
I want to correct the first statement. What I thought I read was what JB posted and it clearly states expansion raises the chance of the champion to enter the playoff NOT higher revenues.

I want to add that it took TCU 2 full horrible seasons before we began to compete in the Big XII. It was simply a matter of talent and depth. Being members of the Big XII has definitely raised the talent level of our recruits and our depth. I wouldn't expect any team (with the possible exception of BYU) to have a chance to immediately compete in this league. Patterson expected it to take 5 or 6 seasons and recruiting classes before he would have the horses to play in the Big XII.
