Everyone we play will have to protect the running lanes when Heard is in there. That will make blocking by the OL a bit easier. I would also expect a lot of zone as well.

Heard's abilities are game changers. He just needs to avoid getting hit as much as he can. We do not have a back up for him.
Sure we do - Kai Locksley

Heard is the first player in a while that opposing teams have to game plan for and account for on every play. This obviously softens up the defense.

I might be missing something but I don't remember Heard taking any huge hits in either of his first two games. Because of his speed and elusiveness it just seems hard to get a clean hit on him. But you're right he does have know when to slide and be safe.

Kirk Bohls  @kbohls

Jerrod Heard got a congratulatory text from Vince Young. So is Heard "Little Vince"?
So does this mean Jerrod shouldn't count on Bohls Heisman vote later if he's in the running in a year or 2?

Lets hope that OL play was not due to Cal laying back not wanting to give Heard lanes to run in. I remember Tech or Houston ( which one escapes me at the moment ) doing that to try to prevent VY from killing them with his feet. After Heard lit them up throwing, they then had to risk it and he made them pay. Thats what is so good about a QB like VY, JFF, Heard, etc....Whatever the D does is wrong.
Honestly, my biggest concern is our DL.  They exposed our freshmen LB's against Cal, by allowing Cal's OL to get to the LB's.  I had been reading that our DL was our deepest unit.  Well, they need to start rotating those cats to find someone who wants to play - at least better than what we have seen.

Offensively, I couldn't be more excited.  We have 3 freshman that will get better every snap they take - Williams, Vahe,  and Heard.  And this doesn't even include Foreman, Burt and Bluitt (who I think has made the difference in our OL blocking).  Should I even mention Daje?

The young defensive players will get better with each snap as well.

No, I think OU will looking at a world of hurt in the Cotton Bowl.  I think UT will actually curb stomp them.
