No More Re-Entry to DKR.

I always get a kick out of comments when there is a game day experience rule change.  At some point, you may have to check in your rotary phone at the game before entering.  Get over it, go to the game, buy your beer at the concession stand or give up your tickets and watch at home.  Just that simple.
You're right. Thanks for giving me advice on how to save thousands of dollars.  <_<

There's an old saying where I'm from, "Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining."

As I stated before, 30+ years of going accross the street to the UT-Ex center and not once was I ever in danger.

not sure what rotary phone has to do with it. A shot at 'olds' I suppose.
The policy in and of itself isn't a line-in-the-sand moment for me. As I mentioned earlier the 'safety' thing is so disingenuous it's embarrassing .

Randolph, I don't think the point of this move has a single thing to do with crowd management.  It has everything to do with keeping $$$ from being spent outside of DKR from just before kickoff to just after the final gun.  If you leave, you stay out.  That's the mantra.  While this may work for Patterson & Co. during really good football games, but games like Rice, Kansas, etc. will definitely lose fans for the 2nd half.  They'll leave and not come back when they don't have the option.

Bottom line, this is a money driven agenda dressed up to look like a safety move.  I'd be curious to know what the average beer sales were last season at the Texas Exes center, and what they will be this year.  I'm saying they'll be cut in half.
Yet the statement begins "Providing a safe and secure environment for fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a top priority for Texas Athletics...."

Here is one of my main objections about how Patterson interacts with the alumni and the genral public - he starts with outright disonesty and believes the alumni are not intelligent enough to understand what is going on. In my estimation, Patterson committed outright fraud in his fundraising for the already funded tennis center, all the time assuming he was so smart and the alumni were idiots. He now institutes policies that are unwarranted and does so relying on outright dishonesty to justify his actions.

I'm not willing to ignore outright dishonesty of a senior university administrator. Steve Patterson lacks the personal integrity to remain as athletic director. Small lies, multi-million dollar lies, outright lies, lies of omission. When do we get integrity and honesty from senior university administrators?

Patterson is a cancer on the university and UT athletics. That Fenves is allowing him to continue as he is something I hope Fenves is called by the Regents to explain.

One of the things that bothers me most is we expect honesty and integrity from the athletes and we think the athletes don't see the blatant hypocrisy of the athletic director's outright lying on a constant basis in his interactions with the alumni. They are taught to have integrity yet they see the head of UT athletics getting paid $1.4 million a year and pretty much conducting himself as a scumbag. They understand Charlie Strong has one set of values and Steve Patterson has another and Steve Patterson is the boss. They get the real message and it sickens me.

Ahrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Fellows, when I'm fortunate enough to go to a game, I get there early. Really early. I love to watch all of the warmups, including the guys who get there early & go out by themselves. I go into the stadium 2 to 3 hours early just to see them.

The only annoying features are jet pack man, and the volume of Godzillatron. Of course, people filing in during the Eyes are really rude. They need to stay in the aisles. The nerve!

I used to get to go to all of the games, and have friends who would go to the Exes Center. You couldn't pry me away from the game with a crowbar.

Hook 'em!

I would usually walk around at half time for the simple reason I felt claustrophobic in the stands as a kid. I didn't care about watching the other team's band, Except for the Rice Band the MOB.

As long as Patterson is the AD then he will try to squeeze every nickel out of UT fans. Unfortunately, get use to it.

It doesn't matter why you want to walk around. The issue is a) Patterson is being blatantly dishonest in his claim the reasonfor the policy is fan safety and b ) I paid a premium price for a seat to see the game. Why do I have to justify how I choose to make the most of the gameday experience?

It is humiliating to the alumni that the senior administrators of the university are willing to blatantly lie to secure at most $10 in incremental revenue. We allow our senior administrators to be lying scum bags and we claim we are teaching the athletes the value of integrity.

Patterson is a cancer to the program and he is undermining the values of the university and of the alumni. And Fenves is unwilling to go on the record stating he objects to all this.

The university is in serious need of new leadership.

You pretty much said the same thing in post 23 on this thread. Your sound like a

Maybe those who visited their friends at halftime could do so before the game? You know...when people hang out..eat, drink and so forth. I mean that is exactly what tailgating is for. It's the entire purpose. I get it, you had a routine and this nixes that routine. I'm sorry, that sucks. Maybe it's about $$$. Who really knows outside of the people who were in the room and Randolph Duke? But simply because you've been going to the game for twenty years and nothing dangerous ever happened, doesn't mean that better safety precautions aren't a good idea. None of those boston marathon runners were too concerned about safety prior to that terrible event were they? Like it or not, people are using public spaces to conduct really terrible acts by the quarter these days. Implementing some safety precautions that are already being utilized at sporting and entertainment venues across the world isn't a bad idea. Regardless off whether it's about getting you to eat more Torchy's or not.

maybe it's about $$$? Yeah, maybe.
If safety was an issue they wouldn't have people giving half-ass glances in women's' purses big enough to carry Fat Man or Little Boy in the stadium in the first place.

Do they search everyone who comes in? Of course they don't yet who's to say someone wont smuggle in a gun or a bomb? It's possible, right? Just because it hasn't happen yet doesn't mean it can't, right? So if they're that worried about everyone's safety, play to an empty stadium and make people buy it on pay for view.

Good grief people, it's about money, pure and simple. Just man up and admit it.

I'm done with this. Who knows, maybe someone will track my IP address to where I live and want to hurt me since I'm not buying this BS. I mean, it's possible right?

Hell, I can't even go to the local college summer league baseball game, leave, and get back in without buying another ticket. My understanding is you can still go to the alumni center at halftime & get back in through gate 7. Winning cures everything & when our beloved football team starts winning again on a big level, most of the "fans" complaining will be praising Patterson as the greatest AD to ever walk the 40 acres. Calm down people!

You are correct TXHorns99.  The original article quoted in my OP has been edited since earlier today.

The original article mentioned nothing about reentry from certain gates, nothing at all about a link to the Football Fan Guide.

Now, why do you suppose that this morning the link read like this below (from my OP,) yet this evening, reads like the article (in green,) at the bottom?

Texas Athletics announces new stadium re-entry policy

Providing a safe and secure environment for fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a top priority for Texas Athletics.

Aug. 13, 2015 Football

Providing a safe and secure environment for fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a top priority for Texas Athletics, and the approaching Texas Football season offers a new opportunity to showcase a smooth and exciting gameday experience.

Beginning with the 2015 season, Texas Athletics is instituting a no re-entry policy at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Gates open at the conclusion of the Stadium Stampede, or approximately two hours before kickoff, and from that point, fans are allowed one entry and one exit.

This policy is consistent with most major sporting venues across the country, including statewide NFL stadiums of similar capacity that provide homes to the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. Careful consideration went into the decision to implement this policy, and the motivation behind it was providing the best, most secure environment for our fans and student-athletes. No re-entry allows gameday staff the best opportunity to ensure the safety of everyone in the stadium.

This year, Texas Football Fan Fest in the Red McCombs Red Zone begins four hours prior to kickoff and is open to anyone who has a ticket for the game. Fans may exit and re-enter the north end zone area freely until the conclusion of the Stadium Stampede.

Texas Athletics gameday update: Enhancements and policy

Texas Football home opener vs. Rice on Sept. 12.

Providing an engaging, fun and safe environment for all fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a top priority for Texas Athletics. As the 2015 Texas Football season approaches, we are proud to announce multiple enhancements to our gameday experience, including a family-friendly pregame fan fest, additional tailgating options, Austin food vendors, concessions upgrades and the addition of beer and wine sales throughout the entire stadium. To facilitate the sale of beer and wine and ensure compliance with Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) laws, rules and regulations, we are also introducing an adjustment to our re-entry policy.

Beginning four hours before kickoff, the Texas Football Fan Fest kicks up the energy and brings the party right inside DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Live music, featuring School of Rock, and the familiar flavor of Austin's Pizza, Torchy's Tacos and Pluckers will be available. Perfect for families, the fan fest also provides family-friendly, interactive games and big screen TVs throughout the north end zone concourse so fans can keep up with all the football action across the country before the Longhorns take the field. The fan fest is open to all ticketholders.

For those wishing to stay outdoors and enjoy the majesty of the Forty Acres until kickoff, Texas Athletics has partnered with Tailgate Guys to bring first-class, turnkey tailgating experiences to the nearby, picturesque spaces of the LBJ Lawn. Tailgate Guys offers packages to accommodate an intimate group of five college friends or a professional networking circle of 2,000 colleagues and customers. Tailgate Guys will also partner with members of the esteemed Austin food and beverage scene to build catering packages sure to please any appetite. For more information, please visit TailgateGuys.com

The Austin food culture continues into the concourses of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. New for 2015, fans can choose among local favorites like Hat Creek Burgers, Mighty Fine Burgers Fries & Shakes, Torchy's Tacos, Pluckers, Austin's Pizza and PoK-e-Jo's BBQ. Creative concepts from our stadium concessionaire, The 1883 Provisions Co., also bring fans tasty options like a sweet shop and a build-your-own nacho bar.

For the responsible enjoyment of fans who are of legal age, beer and wine are available for purchase throughout the stadium. To permit the sale of beer and wine, Texas Athletics must comply with all TABC laws, rules and regulations. To ensure compliance, we have made adjustments to our re-entry policy.

All gates open at the conclusion of the Stadium Stampede, or approximately two hours before kickoff; from that point, fans are allowed one entry. Once gates are open and fans have full access to stadium seating, fans who have scanned in will not be able to exit the stadium and re-enter. This policy is consistent with most major sporting venues across the country, including AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys) and NRG Stadium (home of the Houston Texans).

The Texas Exes Etter-Harbin Alumni Center and the University of Texas Club are licensed by TABC and thus are accessible from the start of the second quarter to the start of the fourth quarter through specified gates. For further details about club accessibility, please consult the complete re-entry policy online in our fan guide

Careful consideration went into the development of these gameday enhancements. Texas Athletics' top priority and motivation is to provide the best and safest environment for our fans and student-athletes.

Re-entry policy

New for 2015, beer and wine is sold at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium throughout the general concourses by licensed vendors. Texas Athletics complies with all regulations of Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) and works with UTPD to provide a safe and secure gameday experience for fans.

Texas Football Fan Fest in the Red McCombs Red Zone begins four hours prior to kickoff and is open to all ticketholders. During the fan fest, and prior to the Stadium Stampede, patrons may leave and re-enter by scanning in/out at the gate.

At the conclusion of the Stadium Stampede (approximately two hours prior to kickoff), all stadium gates open for entry. It is at this point that patrons are no longer allowed re-entry if they leave the stadium.

The Texas Exes Etter-Harbin Alumni Center and the University of Texas Club are licensed by TABC and thus are accessible from the start of the second quarter to the start of the fourth quarter through a specified gate.

  • Fans may access to the Alumni Center through Gate 7 and receive a hand stamp to use with their game ticket for re-entry.
  • UT Club members may access the UT Club hospitality area through Gate 14 and use their UT Club issued wristband and game ticket for re-entry.
Patrons visiting the Alumni Center or UT Club may exit and re-enter only through the specified gates during this time window. All guests' tickets will be scanned in/out, and guests are subject to security inspection. Guests may not leave the stadium premises with a drink, nor bring drinks onto the premises. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, both Gate 7 and Gate 14 will be closed to re-entry.
