SignUp Now!since we have zero coaching vacancies, I won't worry to much about future hiring difficulties.Scholarship limits went into effect on Sept 1, 1965. Since then, UT has never started a season with only 79 school players. Never. The Wickline lawsuit is going to bite the program on the ass when hiring coaches.
The program is not in good shape and it is not headed in the right direction.

People conviently forget Joe Wickline came to UT at the request of Coach Strong. Yea, UT bears no responsibility. Bullshit. How can that be? UT isn't participating in that lawsuit. Are we so unstable in Texas that we're affected and influenced by things that have not happened?
The program is in great shape. If we march out with 30 players by God thats the 30 that want to be here and DKR would certainly smile about what Charlie is doing.
Texas has NEVER had a black head football coach before Charlie. That will likely have the same impact on 2015 as having 79 players. None.

Thats it right there. Charlie offered a job and Wickline took it. It was Wickline's choice.Charlie offered him a job. It's not Charlie's responsibility to answer to OSU. Wickline made a choice.
The hilarious thing is the fact we had 81 scholarship players should have told people we were going to see more attrition. Go look at the thread I started titled "roster".I have no idea if we've ever had 79 players on schollie in our history. You don't either.
It could also be argued things ARE turning around.
We lost two spare parts. This isn't a mackovic-AZ mutiny. Forgive me for being clueless enough not to freak out.
No offense, but this really is common sense. UT isn't liable for a contract that Wickline signed at OSU. Wickline is. But Texas is not. If Wickline is violating that agreement, that's on him. Not on Texas. I'd like to see Texas stand behind Wickline to the most they're capable. But UT bears NO responsibility in upholding the terms of a contract that was between Wicline and OSU.People conviently forget Joe Wickline came to UT at the request of Coach Strong. I think short term there's a problem at LB. We need guys that can contribute immediately. Long-term I think we are fine because of the guys we got in the '15 class and will probably get in the '16 class. Hager, Townsend, Malik, Wheeler, Mcculloch, Jackson, and Smith.....I don't think you can do much better than that. That's why IMO Cherry wasn't a huge loss. There's plenty of depth in the long-term and Chery wasn't going to be an immediate contributor.Would the ones who think LB is a position that has great depth explain it to me. I count only eight LBS not even three deep. WR is the position with most depth IMO
The problem with long term is does Strong have this much time. Short term is now and thats what counts. IMO there needs to be 11 or 12 LBS on roster. The excessive number of WRS carried over from Mack's era.I think short term there's a problem at LB. We need guys that can contribute immediately. As for WR, depth is being built in the '15 and '16 classes. Just from comments in press conferences/interviews I don't think Strong is high on the WRs currently on campus outside of the FR class. WR has a bunch of bodies but not a lot of quality depth. Matter of fact, I think Strong is recruiting over most of the WRs on campus. I don't think there's a doubt there will be attrition at WR.
Yeah, I think Strong will get at least 3 years (if not more). The problem with long term is does Strong have this much time. Short term is now and thats what counts. IMO there needs to be 11 or 12 LBS on roster.

Only draw back to the defections and low roster count is one year wasted in practice time etc.
Strong absolutely has the time. Strong will have at least another three years at Texas, even if every season over the next three were losing seasons. To fire him would cost Patterson. And I'm thinking Patterson is already on a seat or two ahead of the hot seat. The problem with long term is does Strong have this much time. Short term is now and thats what counts. Don't need that kind of attitude on the team. Perhaps his leaving is a net positive. From a poster on Barking Carnival
During the open practice last Sunday, Tommy Robinson had the RBs in the northwest endzone. I walked over and watched them go through drills, a mere 15 feet from the players. About midway through, Catalon kept taking his helmet off and complaining while he waited in line with the other RBs. Coach Robinson had to repeatedly tell him "put your hat on!"
I was a little surprised at Catalon’s indifference to these orders and reluctantly put his helmet half-way sitting on top of his head, which garnered additional scorn from Coach Robinson to "PUT YOUR DAMN HAT ON!!!! HOW YOUGONNA PLAY FOOTBALL WITHOUT YOUR HAT ON???" After multiple requests, Catalon finally put his helmet all the way on his head. Then drills were over.

Sometimes it's hard for fans to realize that it can be a good thing when a player leaves.
