I would like to point out that Colt worked his butt off, on and off the field.  He mastered leadership courses, and haunted the film room.  His leadership role was significant, and it contributed to the success of the team.  When I hear of Swoopes or Heard dedicating themselves to that extent, I will hang up and listen.  I suspect that Kai Locksley has that kind of drive.  We shall find out soon enough one way or the other.

My hope is that one of our qb's steps up and seizes the job.  Makes it impossible to deny him the position.  Carpe Diem!

how do you or anybody really know what a HS student in Maryland know? He may be a genius but I think people are doing the thing fans usually do. Project greatness on 'the next guy' without much basis. Again, wasn't Heard the presumed 'next great thing' this time last year?

I think it's a logical assumption that he has a solid understanding of football given the fact his father is a D1 college coach.  But yes, we fans tend to project to the next guy....especially when the current guy played the way he did last year.

My point on Locksley is in reference to his dad Mike being the OC at Maryland (and a previous head coach at a D1 school).  Kai has been coached since he was a young, young kid - he grew up around the game.  

Does it make him Joe Montana? No.  

Does it give him a paradigm on the game that a lot of players don't have?  Undoubtedly.

I talked to him a handful of times before he signed with Texas and his maturity was well-beyond his age.  

This isn't a projection of greatness or tabbing him as the next guy, but Texas fans should definitely be excited about his potential.

Without Kai on campus much less in the program yet, it is hard to project if he truly is the next great thing at QB. At this point I have no expectations he starts Sept. 5th or necessarily any game next fall.  

However, we can say we like his confidence, attitude, skills, his excellent QB acumen and his perceived leadership abilities. 

We can all get excited about his prospects, but the jury is still out on young grasshopper until he arrives in fall camp.

My thoughts exactly, doesn't even know Locksley's name. Also, his he's well put together scouting report is of little help.

Agree. Neither Locksley or Heard has played a down in college football.

I see Kai starting as a Soph or RS Fresh, whatever comes his way. The young man just has a swagger to him, he is Strong's guy, he is a coaches son, plus he seems to have the respect of the players in his class. Moving forward that will pay HUGE dividends when that class starts making its way to being upper classmen. 

Heard comes in for Whoops Swoopes in the 2nd quarter of the ou game, then finishes the season.

Heard and Sir Kai of Locksley alternate halfs throughout '16.

Locksley and Buchele alternate games throughout '17.

With 4 years of eligibility still left, I guide the team to 4 NCs in '18-'21.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The $600,000 question at Texas is just who calls the plays for the Longhorns' anemic offense.

 
Assistant head coach Shawn Watson says he does. Offensive coordinator Joe Wickline says he does too. In fact, they swear they share.
 
And head coach Charlie Strong? Well, he says they both do, "And I'm on the headset."
 
But when asked who called most of the plays in a 31-7 bowl game thrashing by Arkansas, when Texas managed just 59 total yards, Strong said, "I don't know."

In his sworn testimony, Strong couldn't give a percentage of plays called by Wickline. But all three coaches insisted Wickline has a vital role in deciding whether to run off tackle or to the outside, both in the pregame scripts crafted in weekly strategy sessions and from the sideline after kickoff.

 
Wickline was the most combative, regularly sparring with the Oklahoma State lawyer during his interview.
 
"I'm a decision-maker. I make calls. I call plays," Wickline said.
 
All three said it's Watson's job to call pass plays and Wickline's to handle the running game. And in games when Texas has a big lead, Wickline's role grows.
 
"If you're playing someone and you just beating the brakes off them, we'll probably run the ball to get out of there. So he's going to handle the play calling," Strong said.

Watson acknowledged he's the one who sends the play to the sideline to be signaled to the quarterback.

 
"It can only come out of one mouth," Watson said.
 
In every game? "Yes."
 
For every play? "Yes."
 
Watson said he "usually" listens to Wickline and didn't recall ever overriding his run play call.
 
"I've leaned toward Joe," Watson said.
