I don't know. His HUDL tape is pretty impressive. When he breaks loose, no on the field is going to come close to running him down. He is damn quick. I think its a combination of small school, does it against inferior competition, and he is kinda on the small side.

Why haven't these players already declared their intentions? It'd be nice to free up the scholarships for the 2015 class, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Been seeing about 10-12 names listed on other sites for several weeks that are possible attrition candidates. And the above names are always included.

Why haven't these players already declared their intentions? It'd be nice to free up the scholarships for the 2015 class, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Someone can correct if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that they do not affect how many players you can in a particular class.

They only affect the final number of 85 players you can have on scholarship come sometime in the summer, August I think?

Why does the school's size matter? 2015 commit, Louis Brown, goes to a 2A school.

Correct - my understanding is that we can sign 25 for 2015, plus 6 that go back to 2014 (early enrollees) for a total of 31.

Attrition "helps" with the total of 85. Not sure if this is needed by June when Freshmen enroll or August.

I checked to see what kind of competition Kevin Hogan would face if he went back to Stanford. The Cardinals  signed rivals and 24/7's second rated pro QB last year Keller Chryst. His film is very impressive and I can see where the fans would be excited to see him play.

He is the son of the San Francisco 49ers QB coach under Harbough and his uncle is Paul Chryst the new Wisconsin coach. His final four teams were Stanford, Pittsburgh (where his uncle was coach), Alabama, and USC. When he committed to Stanford an ESPN writer compared him to Andrew Luck. Keller also played high school at Palo Alto, so he's a local high school hero.

If Hogan went back to Stanford next year, he would have to play at a high level because the fans are going to want for Chryst to play. The bad news is that he was recruited to Stanford by Harbough which would probably make Michigan the favorite if he does transfer. Michigan fans are already talking about getting him.

That might be one way to get to 7 DBs 

 

Looks like 4-star CB Xavier Lewis (Reserve, LA) will take an OV to Texas

Either Jan 16th or Jan 30

Currently committed to LSU

Coaching staff continues to bring in the 4-star DBs.

I have (seemingly forever) been assuming 6 total DBs for this class

We are at 4 now with 3 safeties and 1 CB.  Adding 2 CBs puts us at 6 (2 from among Hill, Boyd, Fields, right?)

However, with who we have left on the board and the visits we are still setting up, maybe 7 is possible?

Look at who we are still bringing in for OVs at DB -- Hill, Baker, Fields, Lewis, Redwine and presumedly Boyd at some point.

That is 6 total DBs visiting in the next few weeks --  four 4-stars and two 3-stars

It is late in the game, we are not just doing this for entertainment. Or to waste ours and their time.  In terms of positions on the field, the amount of DBs set to visit swamp any other position.

Conclusion?  7 DBs doesn't sound so crazy.  It looks like Strong/Bedford are tailoring their defense.

It is not unheard of -- for example, Alabama is at 7 now themselves and actively recruiting No. 8 (who would be Holton Hill)
