2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

I still think it's a long shot that Texas lands Murray, but it's fairly obvious that Kyler's father doesn't like Sumlin. It's been known for a while that Kevin Murray isn't a huge fan of Sumlin, and that was reaffirmed after he sent that tweet when Texas landed Jefferson. I think the only thing that might keep Kyler in the fold at A&M is simply the fact that his family are aggies.

It is interesting though. Kevin Murray and Watson are suppose to be close, and if Kyler wants to play baseball Texas is the perfect fit.

Kyler is probably 5'10" at best.  My son is 6'0 and hes obviously shorter than him.  Not too many 5'10 QBs are successful in the NFL.  Baseball and the horns is his best option.  Then he can compete for QB but just remember Watson refuses to play true freshman QB's
Not true, he played Bridgewater as a true freshman. If Murray commits to UT and his the best QB next year, I expect he will play.

Don't discount Kyler's relationship with his uncle. I'm not saying, just saying.

Bridgewater was the exception not the rule.  Watson has already said Teddy was a special case, where he got some things most freshman dont get.  There are numerous "inside" posts through this entire forum regarding Watson and playing true freshman QB's.

I believe SHA and Darrel McPaul and a few others have numerous quotes on this thread and others where they were told by their contacts Watson refuses to play freshman QB's.

I remember those threads the most since I have long been the Anti-Swoopes poster on this forum.  If thats true, then it will be either Swoopes, Heard or maybe some transfer or JUCO they have yet to get.

Funny how some of ya'll are inside the Coach's heads.

Things change Mox.

I suspect that they are being very honest with these young men. No empty promise. These guys are building something very special and imagine the moving parts will work themselves out.

And YES you can never have to many healthy, prepared and capable QBs. Not in the day of Scholly limits.

Watson said Bridgewater was the exception that he was ready to play his true freshman year.  He said most of his quarterbacks aren't ready to play because they don't have the offense down.

Big difference in saying Watson refuses to play a true freshman and not playing a true freshman because he's not ready. In most cases it's best for a freshman QB to redshirt, Murray may be an exception.

There was quotes from Watson regarding Heard in the article "Looking for a Championship QB".  Ill try to find some of these quotes and post them when I have some time.

Learned something today from a friend who is connected to the team, or at least enough to have heard this a few times from the horse's mouth. Watson will do just about anything in order to not play a true freshman QB. So don't look for Zach to be an option and now you know why Heard really never was.

Heard is a spread QB learning to be a pro style QB. It's coming along nice, I'm told.
So maybe refuses to play a true freshman was a little strong.  But the gest is above.

BON has an article from November 24 called Heard starting to get it. Said Bridgewater was exception as far as "he got it right away." All his other quarterbacks had a learning curve. I agree the system doesn't sound like it's set up for a true freshman to come in and play right way.

I was hoping for a JUCO with some experience since its hard to know how a frehsman QB will adjust to collegiate level his first year.  The problem is there are not many JUCO QB's this year Texas was interested in.  Least that is what I heard on this board.

The Disney ESPN Johnny Football hype is getting so old.  Last time I checked VY won a NC, Johnny Punk didnt even win his division.

This is not the right year for a JUCO QB -- here is one list http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/RecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=JuniorCollege (let me know when you find one)

Transfer would have been the better way to go

I'd rather have Kyler Murray for three or four years than any JUCO or transfer including Braxton Miller.

Well its a gamble.  Im talking in terms of next year.  We already have Heard, which I am pulling for.

If we land Murray he still would have to compete with Gentry anyways.  I have watched Murray throughout his career at Allen.  Hes legit.

Rather than rely on a freshman QB to have the "IT" Watson factor, I would like the safety net of a decent JUCO or transfer.  The latter seems unlikely anyways so you may get what you want.

If we dont improve at QB next year with the losses we are incurring on defense, it could be a very rough year for our horns.

On a side note can you imagine Murray 5-10 handing off to Irvin 5-9?  Strong smurf formation.

Even better Gentry 6-6 handing off to 5-9 Irvin.  He might be able to run through the legs of TRISTAN NICKELSON 6'8
