It is obvious that something is going on, it feels like no one is in control, and no one is talking about it.
Would someone who is in the know, please tell those of us who have no clue, who hornrush is? Is he the supposed Darrell du jour?
Ok, I'm going to take a stab at this as I often talk with the parties in question and always try to avoid this subject when I do.
As a small buiness owner, I know you have to stop, take a step back at times, and decide how you're going to proceed from there. You usually do this after reaching plateaus and achieving goals you've set for your business. This is what I feel is in play currently with HS.
Some solid pieces have been put into place. Matt is rock solid and will be a terrific at keeping the cupboard stocked with reports. Mike will be involved in that, as well. And I admire the fact that Aaron is not content with just letting this all happen. He gets his hands dirty, too.
I remain hopeful that there is a place at this table for McPhaul and his info. During that last period of transition, McPhaul was the steady eddie with the info moreso than others I saw.
As some of you know, I was once a managing editor in print media. One of the jobs in my career was directing 6 newspapers for a single owner, a rather wealthy guy who let me handle everything so he could carry on with his social/political agenda he had. So one day he calls me into his office. He hands me a folder. Inside, there is a column rough draft from somebody named "Marjorie Morningstar."
Needless to say, I was objection city. No way I would allow an anonymous writer to be published in my papers. No way. Wasn't going to do it. . . . so he puts it differently. You'll do it or I'll find someone who will. Hummm. Done.
It was a social column which told of the more personal goings on in the communities. And the thing is - it was a huge hit. People participated. People bought the damned paper for that column alone. I was insulted. I was thrilled. All at the same time. I learned that it had it's place and it could, despite my heavy angst, co-exist with my hardcore newspapering. Success sometimes doesn't look like you always thought it should.
