The purge part 2

Not sure what "level" this is but I'm sure that it's true.

Charlie Strong will suspend an unspecified number of players. Unless he doesn't suspend them or unless the number changes.

I'll give Howe a little credit, he never said the players were suspended. Simply, that he was hearing the hammer was dropped. Howe quickly followed up that his sources said no suspensions had taken place.

Chip Brown on the other hand seems to be completely hedging on his previous reports. To say that "Daje, Estelle, and Harrison are facing possible suspension" isn't news. They are on thin ice, everyone knows that. The only reason you would say that is to hedge on a previous comment/get clicks on  his website

They don't call him the sex panther for nothing. He has always taken the leap to try and get to be the first one to break the story.

Chip better slow it down, don't think Strong is a guy he wants to be pissing off. I get the feeling Strong doesn't put up with that nonsense. If Chip wants to keep his credentials he better slow his roll on these type reports unless he's certain.

FYI this is what Howe said over at 247 about the 4 players dismissed last week.

"I've been told that the appeals process is through the university. Those guys are gone."

Seen on another board from a poster who saw it on another board.

-the majority of players dismissed this past week were due to repeatedly failing drug tests.

-S Josh Turner was clean, but was supposedly caught stealing. No details on what he stole.

-RB Daje Johnson, OL Kennedy Estelle, and OL Desmond Harrison are basically on their last chances.

-the meetings that took place yesterday for the dismissed players was to give them their official release from the University. They're done.

This is how I see things currently based on what I've read on other boards.

FYI, that info is basically straight from IT's "Inside the Humidor" article.

Harrison, Estelle and Daje are the rumors on 247. Jeff Howe is saying the hammer may have been dropped.

Strong isn't screwing around.

Speculation so far, we shall see.
Man, losing those three will hurt BIG TIME and probably represent our biggest losses yet.  Particularly the OL where we can ill-afford to lose quality depth.  I hope it's not true.

Reading between the lines this is what I think went down.

All the meetings for the dismissed players happened yesterday to give them their official release. I'm betting Strong also met with Daje, Estelle and Harrison to tell them to get their crap together or they are gone. Chip got wind that those three players met with Strong yesterday and assumed that they were also gone.

I really hate all of these so-called "journalists" trying to be first with a scoop constantly.  Too many damn chicken littles out there will blow up 2nd hand rumors.  But, I guess it gives us something to blog about.

I spoke with Jesus this morning. He told me that Harrison, Daje and Estelle are safe for now.

Any word on what their rumored suspension entails?

Will they miss any games?  UNT will not be an easy W without these 3 guys.  The OL will be hurting!

The only rumored suspension is Daje. The other two are not involved in a suspension as far as I know.

I was told Daje has been on a six week suspension that started last friday. That's from another source, not JS.

Re: Dismissed players.

According to Scipio Tex:

Sources said all the players in question were told that Strong was watching them closely dating back to February, when they were part of a group pulled aside and told that their attitude/behavior had to change.

As part of that conversation, players were told that they would subject to random drug tests, sources said.

At Texas, the policy for failed drug tests is as follows:

First failed test - Athletic Director notifies the student-athlete without the coach knowing.

Second failed test - The coach and parents are notified.

Third failed test - Discipline, including dismissal from the team, can be administered.

Howe over at 247 is still adamant there hasn't been any suspensions. IMO Howe has been the best in terms of accuracy on these type stories in comparison with some of the other guys. If there were suspensions I think there would have been more confirmations like the other players (OB, 247, Scout, IT). Not even Chip Brown is confirming that there are suspensions now. This is not say suspensions won't be coming, because it sounds like these guys are on strike two.

If I recall weren't all 3 of these guys rumored to be in trouble at one time because of grades? Just a guess but I think grades are probably the issue with these batch of players.

I think it is irresponsible, to say the least, to report suspensions and the cause based on speculation. If the information is incorrect, with respect to the suspension or the cause, it can be very damaging and follow the young man for a long time. Quickly printing a retraction, or a 'my bad', may minimize the damage, but it is still damaging.

I wish Charlie would cut these clowns off at the knees, along with the irresponsible agents. Reward responsible reporting, such as McPhaul's.

Hook 'em!

I don't have an account at Scout but I would really like to see Chip's original reports. From reading other forums, it sounds like Chip initially said there were already suspensions for these 3 players. If Chip is hedging now with "3 players could possibly be suspended", he should catch hell. You would have thought Chip would have learned his lesson from past mistakes.
