On Sunday evening D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reported that former Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido was hospitalized on Saturday night as a result of what Rogers says is “a serious medical condition.”
Garrido, a coaching icon, spent 20 seasons at Texas and won two national championships with the Longhorns (2002, 2005). He stepped down as head coach in 2016 after finishing the season with a 25-32 record.
He is the winningest coach in college baseball history, amassing 1,975 wins over the span of nearly 5 decades.
Garrido, along with former LSU head coach Skip Bertman, threw ceremonial first pitches at the LSU – Texas baseball series in Baton Rouge on February 23rd.
Since relinquishing his head coaching duties in 2016, Garrido has served as special assistant to the athletics director at Texas.
The university has not provided a statement on the report.
