After Bastrop’s Antwuan Davis committed to play for the Longhorns on May 5th, Texas waited almost a month before receiving its next 2013 commitment. Steele High School Safety Erik Huhn (Cibolo, TX) committed to Texas after receiving a nice load of offers from many great programs. He choose Texas over the likes of OU (which eagerly pursued Huhn), Georgia, TCU, Nebraska and Baylor – just to name a few.   First thoughts from us? He’s good. What have we heard from others we’ve talked with? Unfortunately they are quick to bring up Blake Gideon’s name. It might take fans a while to shift paradigms and get past the idea that Texas WILL have safeties that can tackle and close in on thrown balls. Just because Huhn is white doesn’t make him a “protogideon.” From the limited video we’ve seen of Huhn he is a heat seeking missile with excellent speed and cat-like reflexes. He hails from the same high school as Longhorn running back Malcolm Brown if you were wondering where you’ve heard the name Cibolo Steele High School before. Huhn has good size at 6’2, 208 lbs. and according to Rivals runs a 4.53 40. He joins Antwuan Davis as the only defensive back commit which, again, must say a lot about how the Texas staff sees Huhn’s potential considering the ‘Horns outstanding offers to Maurice Smith, Su’a Cravens, Marcell Harris and Ridgeland High School’s (GA) Vonn Bell.
