This Thanksgiving will be the last meeting between the Longhorns and the Aggies for at least the foreseeable future. Depending on which side of the fence you are on, this can be considered a taunt or a heartbreaking fact.

The Longhorns and Aggies have a 100 plus year rivalry which has meant so much to the state and to each university. It has always been fun to watch so many Longhorns and Aggies with one another, and there is always plenty of banter and spirit to add to the rivalry. Will the Aggie bonfire be the same without Texas standing in their path?  It will be a sad day to see this competition come to an end.

The end of the rivalry is coming because Texas A&M decided to go join another conference and pursue life without their Longhorn brethren. While the Aggies have voiced a desire to continue the game as a non-conference match up, it has proven to be a harder venture than anyone would have thought. The Longhorn camp even told their Aggie friends if they left the conference there would be no way to continue the games due to scheduling conflicts.

There may be bitter feelings between the schools for this rivalry coming to an end, and both schools have to ultimately share in the blame. But there has been an all out assault on twitter by Texas A&M fans to put the blame squarely on Texas. If A&M could have just minded their p’s and q’s and realized their pecking order within the Big XII, then this game would have been salvaged.  So, remember Aggies, before you point the blame atTexas, it is you who decided to break ranks and venture out on your own.  One has to wonder what A & M was thinking…they are going from being stampeded by Longhorns and boomered by Sooners to being Gator bait or Tiger meat!

After this season, there will no longer be the enjoyment of watching an Aggie have to choke down Thanksgiving dinner after watching their team suffer another loss at the hands of the Longhorns. This is the end of an era and no matter what happens from here on; it won’t be right watching Texas play TCU or even Notre Dame on turkey day. The annual tradition of beating A&M was always one I looked forward to. It just won’t be the same not having them to whip up on and will diminish my Thanksgiving enjoyment.  It is my opinion the Aggies have stepped from the frying pan into the fire.  God’s speed Aggies…you’re gonna need it in the SEC.
