AUSTIN — Â Pitching at Texas is a big deal. It always has been, and always will be.
Just to be a member of the prestigious Texas pitching staff gives you an immediate target as a potential hurler in the MLB.
Year after year, the Longhorns put collegians in professional baseball. But pitchers are the premium.
One particular Horn is starting to look the part in sophomore Dillon Peters.
The 5-foot-11, 200 pound southpaw from Cathedral high school in Indianapolis, Indiana is starting to live up to expectations. Just last weekend, he was six outs from no-hitting the No. 13 Sooners. He went 7 2/3 innings, giving up two hits, while striking out six. He was in total command of his pitches, and both sides of the plate. He was also named Big-12 Pitcher of the week for his gutsy performance.
Peters enters his second season as a member of the starting rotation for UT. As a freshman, he was 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA, and tied for the team lead in starts with 11. Opponents hit a miserable .207 against the lefty.
After throwing a complete game six-hitter in a, 3-1, win against Kansas on Saturday, Peters moved to 3-2 with a 2.15 ERA. He’s also surrendered only one run in his last 16 2/3 innings. While the Longhorns have struggled with .500 ball this year, Peters has been bright spot.

Peters is ready to follow in the footsteps of such legends as Roger Clemens, Greg Swindell, and Burt Hooten, and the new crop, Taylor Jungmann, J.P. Howell, Huston Street. But don’t fret Longhorn faithful. He’s only a sophomore.
He’ll be back next year. With the great expectations of the burnt orange staff from Austin.
