First I want to thank Horn Sports for the opportunity to do this weekly segment. I feel that this is a match that has been a lifetime coming.

Now lets get to the good stuff….

Well folks as we all know the Horns have won three straight in the Big 12 which included a huge win over the hated Sooners.  So with this new found success, has it changed anything ? Well the short answer is no. The only thing that has changed is how (Bill) Powers will handle it. You may ask: but McPhaul, what if we win out? As I have said many times the process is moving forward and the current season’s  final record does not change that. My sources are telling me that Saban continues to be the choice and things are moving in that direction. They have also told me that if for some reason the Saban deal does not go through look for UT to go after other big names before we turn to a Briles or Muschamp. I know that Alabama can match any offer that Texas throws at Saban but my sources have indicated that Saban did lose a pretty good sum of money in real estate investments in  luxury condo’s in Biloxi, Mississippi and along the Alabama coast. The reason this is important is because the Texas BMD’s (Big Money Donors) are in a more favorable position to help Saban’s  BMD’s subsidize his salary in outside business deals at the level that Alabama BMD’s are not capable of.

There has been much discussion about how much Texas is willing to pay for an Offensive & Defensive Coordinator. Some have said as high as 3 million. My source did not indicate a number but did disclose that Texas is going to make sure the new coach has the ability to make his assistants the highest paid in the country. The reasoning here is to have continuity on the staff and slow down other programs from poaching Texas assistants.  There is also thought that in having the best assistants available, it will allow a new coach such as Saban time to handle the other duties that go along with being the head coach at Texas. In a nutshell my sources have said Texas does not just plan on hiring the most successful head coach in college football…..  they plan on hiring an ALL STAR coaching staff.  Look for some very interesting names to apply under Saban.  A lot of respected NFL coaches are interested in what Texas is trying to accomplish.  There will be no shortage of resumes.  One note to file away is this:  what if Muschamp is fired at Florida & Texas hires Saban? Would Saban bring in Muschamp to run the defense?  Food for thought…..

I know everyone is wondering about the AD search. Well, several sources have indicated that this is all but done. Are you feeling Lucky? Yep, Oliver Luck is the guy. An announcement should come very soon.

Until next week, I will see you on the boards.
