Texas junior quarterback Quinn Ewers was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday. It’s Ewers’ second career Maxwell Player of the Week honor after earning the nod on Sept. 12, 2023.

Ewers played an integral role in UT’s 31-12 win over Michigan on the road. The victory snapped the Wolverines’ win streaks of 16 overall victories, a Big Ten-record 29 regular season wins, 23 home wins (their longest streak since 28 in 1969-73), 23 non-conference wins at home dating back to 2014, and 15 overall non-conference regular-season victories. Texas’ 19-point win was the Longhorns’ largest margin of victory against a top-10 team on the road since 1979. That year, UT knocked off No. 5/7 Missouri, 21-0, in Columbia. It also was the Longhorns’ biggest point differential over a top-10 team overall since 2005 when the UT knocked off No. 10/8 Texas Tech in Austin, 52-17.

In addition to being named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, Ewers has also been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, and the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, to go along with being selected to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 and being tabbed a Manning Award Star of the Week. Ewers was also named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Maxwell Award.

Ewers completed 24-of-36 passing attempts for 246 yards and three touchdowns for the Longhorns in the win. It was the second top-10 road win for Texas in as many seasons after last year’s win at No. 3/3 Alabama. Ewers has won eight-straight true road games dating back to 2022, and he’s thrown 15 touchdown passes with just one interception in those. Three of the eight wins have come at top-15 opponents’ stadiums, and in those games, he has completed 63% of his passes for 792 yards and eight touchdowns (0 interceptions). The Southlake, Texas, native guided the Longhorns to scoring opportunities on all five possessions of the first half against Michigan, converting three touchdowns and one field goal. The only one that did not end in a score was a missed field goal attempt that followed a touchdown pass that was called back due to a penalty.

In the first half, Ewers led the offense to 8-of-10 third-down conversions, including going 6-of-7 passing with one touchdown, along with rushing for one of his own for eight yards on a 3rd-and-7. Ewers has now thrown at least one passing touchdown in each of his last 15 starts, dating back to the 2022 season. On the season, Ewers is 2-0 under center and has completed 44-of-63 passing attempts for 506 yards and six scores.

Ewers and the Longhorns return to the friendly confines of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for a 6 p.m. CT kick against UTSA on Saturday, Sept. 14 on ESPN. Mark Jones (play-by-play), Roddy Jones (analyst) and Quint Kessenich (sideline) will have the call.
