The point on a brisket is typically the fattiest cut. Pitmasters often trim the point (and select edges) off a brisket and return those pieces to the smoker.
Are burnt ends tough, chewy worthless cuts of meat, or are they heavenly bites of smoky goodness? It depends on who you ask…
Rather than discard the trimmings and fat, we choose to savor all the information that flows through the site. So, sit down and help yourself to some burnt ends.

Now that the first game is out of the way, and Texas fans are fat on the spoils we want to attempt to tell you the background through camp and last night’s game. Let’s start with the quarterback battle since it was an up and down series of reporting.'”

[*]Going into camp, Shane Buechele was riding a wave of momentum from his stellar performance in the Longhorns’ spring game. It was inconceivable to think Tyrone Swoopes could take the field again in the face of Buechele’s performance and his past. We expected the “competition†to go on for a week or two before Buechele was initially named the starter.
[*]Reports from camp were what we expected. Shane looked like he operated the offense better, but he did take some chances that resulted in turnovers. Tyrone Swoopes operated a conservative game, and generally didn’t look bad in practice.
[*]A report from Orangebloods reporter Anwar Richardson indicated that Swoopes was leading the competition, and it “wasn’t closeâ€. While sources indicated to us that Swoopes was having a strong camp, the idea that Swoopes was so far ahead that it wasn’t close was laughed at by several high level people in the building.
[*]We questioned internally if this was all simply subterfuge to keep the quarterback plans under wraps. We treated it as such until we continued to hear more and more that Swoopes would be named the starter. Once we sorted through the information we felt comfortable enough to confirm it while acknowledging we didn’t have a firm grip on the story. We understand this caused consternation between many sites, but at the end of the day reporters can only report what they are told by trusted sources. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.
[*]We checked with a source inside the AD for more clarification and were basically told that Shane was winning the competition, but the coaches were going to run with Swoopes due to experience and the opponent. “If it were UTEP first, we’d probably go with Shane.â€
[*]Friday night before the game we were told from a very strong source that Shane Buechele had been notified he would be the starter. We were asked not to report it per the wishes of everyone on the coaching staff to keep it quiet. We spoke that night with another person who told us, “There’s really no rule that says you have to name a starter. If you think about it, there’s no real advantage to it. Let Notre Dame prepare for both guys until kickoff.â€
[*]We talked all offseason about the confidence that the players and coaches were operating with. While we generally thought we had heard the same things before, this time it felt more real. In talking to folks every chance we had, they couldn’t wait to tell us how much better they felt about this team. There’s still a long season ahead, but this team is feeling some serious optimism.

Yoakum WR Joshua Moore
“The game was crazy! The atmosphere was jumping. The fans were in the game the whole time. It was amazing to see all of that! It was exactly what I was hoping to see. I loved the new offense it fits me perfectly. I loved the way they used John Burt. They gave him the ball in space and on fade routes as well.â€

“It was the most intense game I’ve ever been to. It’s going to be interesting to watch them this season, but I think the uptempo will help them. Shane did his thing.â€
West Mesquite RB Damarcus Crockett
“It was great. It was my first time meeting the coaches, but they already knew who I was. Overall it was a great experience, and one of the nicest schools I’ve seen. The coaches are great, and the fans are amazing. I’m looking forward to going back, and I hae a lot of interest there.â€
West Mesquite DB Dayven Coleman
“It was great, I talked to coach Clay (Jennings) and coach Bedford again. They just want to see the rest of my film before they offer. The game was lit. It was the best season opener yet. It was crazy, and Texas has the best fans I’ve seen so far.â€
Dallas Carter DE Jarell Cherry

Silsbee WR Kalon Barnes
“I really enjoyed myself and would love to be back in Austin. The fans are great. Now I would like to tour the school.â€
