Kansas State presents a tough matchup for Texas this weekend. It’s not TCU or Notre Dame tough: The Wildcats are 3-3 overall and winless in Big 12 play, but Kansas State holds an advantage over Texas that no other current Big 12 school possess.

Kansas State is 9-6 overall against Texas. No other current Big 12 School owns an all-time winning record against the Longhorns.

To make it a little worse, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder is 6-3 against Texas.

Texas and Kansas State played for the first time in 1913, and Texas won 46-0. Kansas State won the following matchup in 1926, and Texas the next two in 1927 and 1942. Texas owned the all-time record of 3-1 between the two schools for four decades.

Kansas State hired Snyder in 1985, and he beat Texas 48-7 the first time he played the Longhorns in 1998. Snyder won the following year too. The two schools did not play again until 2002 and 2003, both of which were Texas victories. Snyder retired for the first time from Kansas State in 2005 with a 2-2 record against the Longhorns.

At that point, Texas still owned the all-time record between the two schools at 5-3. In Snyder’s absence, the Wildcats beat the Longhorns twice, evening out the record at five games apiece.

Snyder returned to Kansas State in 2009 and immediately beat Texas the following year 39-14. At the time of Snyder’s re-hiring, Kansas State was in the middle of a two game win streak against Texas. Kansas State, with Snyder as their head coach, went on to win the next three games against Texas, totaling for a five game win streak.

Since Snyder’s re-hiring, Texas has beaten Kansas State once. It happened in 2013 when a Mack Brown-coached Texas team beat Kansas State 31-21 in Austin. That ended the five game win streak for the Wildcats.

This weekend a Charlie Strong-coached Texas team is tasked with beating Snyder’s Kansas State team for the second time since Snyder’s return.

Snyder’s record in Austin is 2-2, including both tenures as Kansas State’s head coach. However, he has never lost in Austin twice in a row.
