Texas vs. OU: Notable Stats

The Texas Longhorns showed improvement on both sides of the ball in the win against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday. A struggling defense stepped up the level of play, notching six sacks and limiting a prolific Oklahoma offense to less than 300 total yards.

Offensively, Texas implemented a different philosophy, intent on winning the football game with a steady rushing attack.

The end result was a 24-17 victory with head coach Charlie Strong wearing the Golden Hat and securing the biggest win in his short tenure as head coach of the Longhorns.

    [*]The Texas run defense held Oklahoma to 1.8 yards per carry. They were allowing 4.4 YPC prior to Saturday’s game.

Texas RB D’Onta Foreman‘”

    [*]Texas running back D’Onta Foreman’s 81 yard run against the Sooners in the 3rd quarter was the longest by a Texas player in the history of the series. Jamaal Charles held the previous record of 80 yards in the 2005 game.

     

    [*]Foreman’s 81 yard run was the 11th longest run in school history.

     

    [*]D’Onta Foreman notched his second consecutive game of rushing for 100+ yards (117 yards against Oklahoma and 112 yards against TCU). The last time a Texas player accomplished this feat was in 2004 (Cedric Benson did it against Kansas and Texas A&M).

Texas WR Marcus Johnson‘”

    [*]Johnson scored the 4th touchdown of his career as a Longhorn during the 1st quarter. The touchdown, which came on a shovel pass sweep, was Johnson’s first touchdown of the season.

    [*]Bluiett, who recently switched from defense to offense, scored his first career touchdown on a 2-yard pass from quarterback Tyrone Swoopes in the 4th quarter.
