BIG THINGS: North Shore's Tyler Moore making waves

Galena Park North Shore Offensive Lineman Tyler Moore is making a name for himself on and off the football field. He’s a big kid with lots of power and it’s no surprise he caught the eye of Texas Offensive Coordinator Joe Wickline even before Wickline took the job under Charlie Strong (while employed at Oklahoma State). He’s also a hard worker with great discipline.

While most high-school students are soaking up the summer sun and catching-up on sleep, Moore has placed a priority on two things: improving his football acumen and academics. His days are regimented, as he is taking a college introductory class at a local community college in the mornings and closing his summer evenings with two night classes to ensure an early (December, 2014) graduation from North Shore High School. In between is football, and lots of it. Moore boasts a 3.8 G.P.A. and intends to keep his grades up, all of which has served him well in his journey as a student-athlete that will soon play college football at a major Division I football program.

Moore continues to work on his conditioning each day, getting leaner and more agile. When we saw him at the Houston Nike Football Training Camp in April he weighed almost 340 lbs. On a 6-3 frame he looked absolutely menacing. That was then and this is now…. With his new strength and conditioning routine he has dropped 30 lbs. over the last handful of months and added noticeable muscle to a much leaner frame. Tyler told us among the obvious advantages to dropping extra weight, it has helped him to be “stronger and quicker off the line.” At 310 lbs. today he looks tougher in the trenches than he did in April.

As far as prospective colleges are concerned, Moore’s offer list grew slowly but has picked up a lot of momentum. After attending multiple camps in which he was able to showcase his strength and skillset, more teams began to take notice. He has received offers from Illinois, Louisiana Tech, Oregon State, Minnesota, New Mexico, Texas, Texas State, North Texas and Colorado. While Texas is currently the only Big 12 program to offer to Moore, just about every team in the conference has shown an interest in him. Oklahoma and TCU are intrigued enough to maintain consistent communication with Moore.

His dad Samson, who coached Tyler at an early age and continues to guide him on and off the field, told us that “Texas is in a good position with Tyler right now.” Tyler likes the idea of potentially playing with his childhood friend and North Shore teammate, Tristian Houston (Texas commit 2015) at the next level. “North Shore would definitely be represented on the 40 Acres” says Moore.

Moore attended Charlie Strong’s inaugural “Under the Lights” Camp on Friday and had this to say about the camp: “It was an awesome experience competing against some of the best players across the state.”

Stay tuned for more from Moore, whose recruiting process is not finished by any means.
