Time for another edition of The Outsiders Edge, your one stop shop to see all the things that grind my gears. Special shout out to Nate Boyer and all the warfighters out there who keep this nation safe from its enemies. Without men like you, we’re all having tea and driving on the wrong side of the road.
The USFL: This is just an awful time for sports columnists. Nothing really going on, waiting for camps to start, and being subjected to tennis. I was excited about the proposed re-fire of the USFL, and I hope it gets done. Reader’s Digest for those not familiar, this incarnation would be a spring/summer type thing, and would feature recent college grads needing the seasoning. The teams would also be based near major schools like Texas, USC, Florida etc. They would not compete with the NFL, but be more of an unsigned partner, basically providing the NFL with a farm system like MLB has with MiLB. Exclusive of the fact we’d have real American football going, this would be some dramatic theater, with guys giving 110% trying to make the league. Whomever pulls the puppet strings, make this happen please.
Arrion Springs Pulls The Trigger: The SA Roosevelt HS stud pulled the trigger for Oregon. You shouldn’t have been surprised, it was his dream offer, and he ran with it. I am impressed Coach Akina hung in so long against that Nike fueled juggernaut with the NFL facilities up there. Springs is going to get a great place to hone his craft against some explosive offenses. Best of luck young man.
Longhorns Football Scheduling: I’d like to see Texas schedule an opener against UTSA or Texas State. I know its supposed to be a big gimme win in week 1 for your fans, but there are much better teams to tune up against than hapless New Mexico State. At least the Bobcats and Roadrunners kinda run offenses similar to what you’ll see in conference, with enough talent on the field to actually give you a good look. Leave New Mexico State to be eaten by someone else.
Dwight Howard Sweepstakes: He most likely ends up back in Hell-A, but if Houston rapper Slim Thug has anything to do with it, he will be a Rocket. In case you missed it, Slim Thug has been recruiting D-12 hard with such gold as lower child support payments, no state income tax, and the knowledge Kobe will blame him for everything. If you want a good laugh, it’s definately worth looking up.
Why doesnt anyone want to play for the  Mavericks: Mark Cuban is a good owner, ton of cash to throw around, so on and so forth. Makes me wonder what is going on up there keeping these guys from signing. Could be Dirk’s advanced age? Coaching?
Aggies in the Slammer: Two starters picked up for assaulting guys. Yeah, don’t say a damn thing about Cayleb Jones again. Hypocrites.
