If the nickname “The Answer” wasn’t already taken, we might have had to give it to J’Covan Brown.  He has answered all the questions going into the season about whether he was mature enough or good enough to lead Texas with a resounding “Yes!”  Coming into the season, everybody wondered if Brown would be able to shoulder the load.  Would be be able to do enough while the talented freshmen went through some freshmen moments.  After all, Brown played just 22 minutes per game last year and scored 10 points per game in a supporting role.  Was he ready to be a leader?

J’Covan Brown has answered all those questions on and off the court.  Brown, who didn’t initially qualify at Texas coming out of high school in 2008 is now on the Academic All Big 12 First Team.  He is a regular on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll as well.  And on the court, Brown has done everything and more for this young Texas team.  Brown is averaging a league leading 19.7 points per game, and is in to top 10 in assists(3.8), steals(1.29), free throw percentage(84.7%) and 3-point percentage(39.4%) in the Big 12.  His 2nd half heroics have brought Texas back time after time this season, yet he is one of those deserving guys not being talked about for National Player of the Year.  Brown wasn’t even on the mid-season Wooden Watch List.  A lot of those players on that list are very good role players on very good teams.  J’Covan Brown is a very good star player who deserved to be on that list.  After not making any All Big 12 teams last year, I think it’s safe to say Brown will be named All Big 12 after this season.  Brown is also as deserving as any guard in America for All-American recognition after this season as well.  Texas has squandered 2 opportunities to punch their ticket to the dance.  With 3 games left in the regular season, and sitting at 17-11 and in 6th place in the Big 12, they need these wins badly.  There are still some who didn’t think Brown could lead the Longhorns to the tournament.  As he has been doing all season, I expect J’Covan Brown to rise to the challenge and get his Longhorns into the dance.
