Just like that it came to an end. The Texas Longhorns were playing on borrowed time as it was, playing from the loser’s bracket in the Regional, Super Regional and College World Series matchups. With only four hits in the game, the Horns could not muster up enough offense against the Tarheels to make a ballgame out of the matchup. Cole Green, the starting pitcher for Texas ends his career as a Longhorn lasting only two innings giving up two runs and five hits. The final score looked like this: North Carolina 3, Texas 0.

The Longhorn baseball team can consider this season a tremendous success, even without bringing the 2011 CWS Championship back to Austin. They clawed and scratched their way to a CWS appearance which frankly looked “hit or miss” as the season progressed.

The big question is whether Taylor Jungmann, the 2011 NCAA National Player of the Year, will sign with the Milwalkee Brewers – the team that selected him 12th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft or return to Texas for his Senior season. If I were a betting man I would say yes. Jungmann had an undefeated regular season and managed to fall apart in the postseason – which certainly contributed to the lack of stamina for the Longhorns in the postseason.

To the Longhorn Baseball Team: On behalf of all Texas fans, thank you for a fantastic and entertaining baseball season! Hook ‘Em!
