Torshiro

Welcome to the first of what will hopefully translate into many posts from me here on Bevoball.com!  I am excited to be part of the team and look forward to providing insight and analysis into “all things Longhorn” as we transition from basketball season into baseball and football.  Speaking of football, like most of you, I am particularly excited about the 2012 recruiting class so I thought I would dive right in by interviewing one of the newest Texas Longhorn football players, Woodlawn (Shreveport, LA) High School’s Torshiro Davis.

In a brief conversation I title “Ten Questions with Torshiro Davis.”  I had an opportunity to ask this incredible athlete 10 questions.

QUESTION 1

Coach B.:

Lets start with National Signing Day and your decision to sign with Texas. What was it about Mack Brown that got you to sign with Texas over LSU?

Davis:

– The way that they treat people at Texas and how they make you feel at home once you’re on campus is why I picked Texas.

QUESTION 2

Coach B.:

Since National Signing Day, how much grief have you received from friends and family for not staying in-state and picking LSU?

Davis:

Actually none of my family or friends have given me any grief. They have been supportive of my decision to go to Texas. Most of the grief I have received has been from LSU fans.

QUESTION 3

Coach B.:

In preparation for your arrival at Texas, what parts of your game are you working on?

Davis:

I am working on getting stronger and putting on weight without losing the speed that I have.

QUESTION 4

Coach B.:

How do you see yourself fitting into the Texas defense?

Davis:

I see myself as a defensive end that will be a dominant pass rusher who will lead the team in sacks.

QUESTION 5

Coach B.:

Is that a position that interested you more or was it a move that the Texas coaches felt you were better suited for?

Davis:

I am interested in the position, but it will be interesting to see if I like it more. They say I will keep growing, but it is kind of awkward.

QUESTION 6

Coach B.:

Speaking of growing, you’re listed as 6’3” 225 lbs. Where are you at in your off-season program with regard to your weight?

Davis:

I am currently sitting at 235 lbs., but I am looking to get to 240 lbs. before I get on campus.

QUESTION 7

Coach B.:

Do you expect to come in and fight for a starting spot immediately?

Davis:

Yes, most definitely.

QUESTION 8

Coach B.:

How excited are you to play for Manny Diaz?

Davis:

I am very excited to play for Coach Diaz. He recruited me, he is a down to earth guy and a good guy.

QUESTION 9

Coach B.:

Coach Diaz is a fiery, detailed oriented coach. How does your game translate to play for a coach like Coach Diaz?

Davis:

Coach Diaz reminds me a lot of my high school defensive coordinator. He is pretty much the same and my high school defensive coordinator really got after us.

QUESTION 10

Coach B.:

Tell me something that people may not know about you?

Davis:

I am a fun loving guy who likes to play around a lot and just be goofy.

I had a great time talking with Torshiro.  Not only is he an outstanding football player but he is also a special young man.  He is going to be exciting to watch at Texas and I fully expect to see great things from him for many years to come. Longhorn fans get ready – this young man is rolling in to the 40 Acres to be a difference maker.
