After serving 23 years on the coaching staff of the baseball team at The University of Texas Tommy Harmon has reportedly been fired from his position as Associate Head Coach. Did he do anything wrong in particular to deserve his walking papers? Doesn’t seem that way. The Longhorns had a mediocre baseball season and were plagued with injury after season-ending injury. Harmon, a former catcher for the Longhorns, is more than likely taking the fall for a poor offensive season (Texas hitters averaged collectively just .263 this season). Tough to see a guy who has given his life to the University be forced to walk away but let’s hope Coach Garrido and the staff can rebuild and get the team ready for a successful season next year.
A heartfelt thanks to Coach Harmon for all he did for the Texas baseball program and we hope to see him in the dugout at another program soon.
