Texas Loses Game 1 of CWS to Florida, Still Optimistic

Just when you thought there was no way the sizzling ace for the Longhorns pitching staff could struggle again… well, think again.  Jungmann gave up five runs in four and a third innings pitched.  The Longhorns struck first as they scored 3 runs in the top of the third, but the Gators managed to get two of those runs back in their at bat in the bottom of the third.  Jungman was pulled in the fourth inning but not before Florida scored two more runs to make the score 4-3.  The Gators scored again in the fifth to pad the Gator lead to 5-3.  Texas looked like it was going to mount a comeback when they scored a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4.  This was short lived because Florida put up two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth and closed the door on the Horns in the ninth notching an 8-4 victory.

Texas will (again) play from the loser’s bracket in hopes of winning out to earn a seventh College World Series Championship.  I’m sure the locker room was not fun afterward and more than likely coach Garrido had a few things to say to his players, particularly about the lack of offensive production.  Florida pitcher Hudson Randall pitched a great game giving up only five hits in six and two thirds innings and at retired thirteen straight Texas batters from the third to seventh innings.

Like the great French philosopher René Descartes once said “I think, therefore I am.”  Not to bore you with philosophy but the Longhorns seem to have proven the doubters wrong all post-season.  Like the great philosopher infers in proving his statement is “things are not always as they seem.”   This proves true to the Texas Longhorns, as they have continued to defy mathmatical odds, keeping the dream of winning another CWS title alive.  I expect this time to be no different.

Texas will play North Carolina at 1:00 pm on Monday .
