For Jalen Milroe, last Thursday night was not a typical outing for the junior four-star quarterback from Tompkins High School in Katy.

After falling behind 35-10 in the third quarter to Katy, one of the best teams in the nation, his Falcons mounted a huge comeback off of his right arm that came up just short, 35-30.

However, after the game, Milroe’s spirits were high as he was able to draw a lot of positives from his team’s performance after losing the same game 66-13 a year ago.

“We knew that we were going to play a great team coming into the game,” Milroe said. “We prepped hard and came out and gave it all we had. On offense, we gave all our fight. We came up short, but we came out with a fight after halftime.”

Milroe is in the midst of a breakout junior season as he has passed for 1,369 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just 1 interception in six games. He was Texas’ third commit in the 2021 class when he committed on July 21. His commitment brought a wave of recruits in the 2021 class along with him including another Katy ISD four-star, OT Hayden Conner from Taylor High School.

“I’m really excited to play with everyone in my class. It’s exciting being in the program and being able to talk to everyone in-depth when I’m on campus, I’m just really excited to be a part of the Texas program.”

Milroe is the #71 overall recruit in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports, and is the #3 dual-threat quarterback in his class. He currently stands as Texas’ second-highest rated recruit in his class behind Denton Ryan’s Ja’Tavion Sanders.

“With Texas, I feel that they were most consistent. I feel as though my ability is a priority for them on and off the field and I felt at home on the campus. I felt the genuineness between Coach Herman and Coach Beck, I love the coaches over there and I love how the program is growing as a whole. Choosing Texas I feel has been a great fit.”

As a quarterback that has the ability to make plays with his legs as well as with his arm, Milroe being a great fit for Texas may be an understatement as his playing ability directly compliments what we have seen in recent years at the Forty Acres.

“My aspiration and goal is to make it to the NFL. I know that playing in the Texas program sets me up to play at the next level. With the offensive scheme, I love the program and offense that Sam Ehlinger is running and I feel that I will be great in that same offense.”

Despite Milroe only being a junior with a lot of playing time left before arriving in Austin, the Tompkins’ star quarterback’s presence has already been felt with the staff as he has a played a huge role of the recruiter since committing in July.

“I’m trying to get my brother Tunmise [Adeleye] to come along and some offensive linemen to come on board like Bryce Foster and Donovan Jackson. We have Hayden Connor, and him and Bryce Foster play together at Taylor so we’re just trying to get that brotherhood back together. And it’s not just offensive guys, we’re trying to get some defensive guys too so we can win a national championship at Texas.”

Milroe’s name will be one to keep an eye on over the next 15 months as his ceiling remains really high with already so much development shown over this past offseason.

“There’s nothing better than staying home and having that state across your chest.”
